Does anyone else cringe at the portrayal of black people in old B&W movies... with the yessums and massas?

Yes, it was a different time back then. The quality of roles for black actors has improved considerably. More and more black actors and directors are being acknowledged. I think those awards are deserved and not some kind of compensatory prize to clear some consciences as some claim. There are exceptions of course, and there always will be stereotypes of the black community in films.

Yes, I do. But I think it's a good measure of how far society has come.
