  • Well...at this point it's expected. I would be very interested (as I tend to be in many subjects, especially science), but most would be disinterested, as it is very much likely that the first E.T. life we find will be very simple (bacteria and so-on). *** If you mean "intelligent, technologically-capable ET life, at least at a level where technology such as radio communications is possible for that life, and we are able to communicate with them", then we have a quite different scenario, and it would mostly depend on the other life's technological capability and attitude toward our species and planet. Assuming (as now seems likely) no faster-than-light travel and no other simple means of interstellar travel (for example: a species that is very long-lived might travel from another solar system to ours using technology that we already know and understand), the "fear of the aggressive alien" scenario would be largely stymied, and what we would have is much more of a sharing of ideas and technologies. There would be alien-o-philes who loved the alien music and/or philosophy and/or religion and tried to emulate them here on Earth. Likewise there might be the same reaction on the ET planet. These would likely be small-ish, cult-like movements. There would be similarly small alien-fear-mongers movements. There would be preachers (of various religions) who would add such...motivations to their preaching. Some preaching that the alien existence and culture is a very good thing for the Earth religion, and some preaching that it is doom. Again: probably small-ish, cult-like examples. Some religions would be intent on converting aliens to their religion. Some would be intent on equating them with evil. Some: on equating them with deities. etc.
