  • No. Jackson was not popular with a large swath of voters. Choosing him might have resulted in a worse defeat for Dukakis. I happened to like Dukakis and was very familiar with him having lived in Massachusetts, but his personality didn't resonate with a lot of voters; he was something of an egghead for one thing. That was the major problem.
