It always has been. For them to exploit loopholes in terms of supposed "losses" and so forth means they end up paying less than the average taxpayer, as Warren Buffett has pointed out and as Donald Trump's returns demonstrate. That's always been a scam, however legal, and anyone of moderate intelligence knows it.

If they paid as much as you do they wouldn't be paying any would they? Do you really think THAT is FAIR? "The top 1 percent paid a greater share of individual income taxes (38.5 percent) than the bottom 90 percent combined (29.9 percent). The top 1 percent of taxpayers paid a 26.8 percent average individual income tax rate, which is more than six times higher than taxpayers in the bottom 50 percent (4.0 percent).Feb 25, 2020" Suppose they decide to go where taxes are cheaper... Then whose gonna pay YOUR SHARE? You've got some nerve saying other people aren't giving enough considering the portion you pay!

Baloney, Linda. Youre talking about the TAX BRACKET they are in. But once they apply all the deductions that are only available to the rich and big business, they end up paying NOTHING. Like Trump. Are you aware? They showed the last two years of his income taxes, he paid less than $1000 each year? A billionaire, paid less than $1000 per year. WAKE UP Linda!! -

Yes. When the top marginal tax rate was around 90% and the only way not to pay it was to invest in the US, the economy was booming and the country was making major strides. Once Reagan and his false "trickle down" ideas took hold, the country started to stagnate. What we have now is a situation where the very wealthy are paying a smaller proportion of their income than teachers and bus drivers.
