  • The "qibla" is the term for the direction pointing toward the Kaaba, the black cube that represents the physical house of God Himself, according to Islamic (and also many pre-Islamic) tradition. This direction is of great significance to Islam, as it is mandated for many customs in the Quran. Mosques have a wall marked to indicate the proper direction toward the Kaaba, except the mosque in Mecca that contains the Kaaba.
