Glambabler seems to think I have a lofty position from which I need to step down, so before I do, I'll take it upon myself to anoint thee King Dances With Wolves of Answerbag! Congratulations!
  • If she stepped down only as the Queen of England, she'd still be the Queen of Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Belize, and several island nations that I can't be bothered to name right now. That's how powerful she is. But, essentially none of those nations really rely on their monarch to make any political decisions, so that's how inconsequential that amount of power is in 2021.

On the other hand, simply making that observation a hundred or so years ago would have gotten a person executed.
  • Actually, I don't know how to say this respectfully, but, maybe, she won't step down because she's afraid of Charles (and maybe also Andrew). Her eldest kids have been at the center of a few controversies, and people close to the royal family have, in the past, expressed concern that Charles would make a bad king. I believe the Queen still takes her position extremely seriously, so it all adds up to me.
