I worked with meat for a combined 17 years at different grocery stores. Chicken shouldn't have a smell. It may smell faintly of blood, but it shouldn't stink. If it smells bad, it has turned, and isn't safe to eat. If you find a pack of chicken that smells bad, don't buy it. Let an employee know.
