• It was inevitable after the defeat of the Muslims controlling Spain. The kingdoms of Castille and Aragon united under Ferdinand and Isabella and managed to run their occupiers out of their lands after 800 years of occupation. The 1st jihad invaded Europe from Islamic nations in north Africa. This happened around 700 AD. The forces of Charlemange managed to kick them out of northern Europe, but couldn't dislodge them from Spain. After they were finally sent packing, the united kingdoms instituted the Spanish inquisition to root out any of their enemies who might be hiding out in disguise. The pope at the time sent instructions to stop the inquisition, but the king and queen refused and they brought it to it's end on their terms.
  • Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!
