  • I would imagine for any number of reasons. It is a good job and pays well, for career advancement, because someone of your friends or family did it, to earn people's respect, to make a positive difference in society, to work with people. Etc., etc.

Thanks, those are all good reasons but don't you think some join for the wrong reasons ? Youtube is full of proof videos.

Ice, so you think that YouTube videos you see are proof that guys got into the job for the wrong reason?
    • Ice man
@ Hardcore - I wouldn't say all, but yes some have been recorded abusing people. When you see a cop booting an elderly man, who is laying face down on the ground with his hands cuffed behind his back ... that's a cop that shouldn't be a cop. He's not there to serve & protect, he's there to dish out pain to the people while hiding behind a badge. Using a taser on an old woman for no other reason than the woman asked why the cop stopped her in the first place, is another good example of a cop who likes to think of himself as "judge, jury, and executioner".
  • 3-7-2017 For some people, beating suspects is the only thing they do well.

      Agreed. : (
  • I know - RIGHT !

I don't think I'd want to walk around with a target on my back. ; )
  • to wear great uniform! XD to have own pistols.
    • Ice man
Hahaha Good reasons, but you can join the navy to have the same. : )

i have kinetosis (sea sickness) hmmm.. can i ride jetplane if i were able to be part of the navy? i love those planes!
    • Ice man
The navy does have jet fighters (which I'd love to go in for a ride), but they usually are assigned to aircraft carriers (ships). Maybe you could joint the Air Force ? ; )
    • Myang
air force. hmmm.. seems so many processes to be part of them. if my lover is a jet fighter. are they gonna allow me to fly with him in the jet plane? xD

The blue polyester uniforms suck. And that's 16 years on the job experience talking.
    • Mr PantsFellDown
I remember polyester pants from the 70's, they made you sweat for no good reason and produced their own kind of body odor by half way through the day, so you'd be dying to get home and take them off.

sounds stinky :D good thing we have improved nowadays.
  • Power Trip.
  • Did it for 16 years and would NOT do it again. The pay is lousy for the BS that you have to deal with. Remember, you're usually dealing with people at their worst.
  • At best a calling to serve and protect. At worst a power trip to be above the law.
    • Jewels Vern
The only thing they serve and protect is the legislature. They are a standing army.
  • So that they could legally sing to their victims "Violence, violence, it's the only thing that'll make you see sense".
  • Seems to me it's like a blood sport.
  • Some people are passionate about keeping law and order. This could be the principle reason however some join as a way of getting a job to make money
