  • I love storms. So yes, I guess they do make me "happy".
  • Yes, I tend to get somewhat excited when there is a storm. However, I regret the injuries and loss of life that serious storms can cause.
  • For me, the "happy" sensation is not because of the storm itself, but it is because of the feeling of protection and security during the storm.
  • I love storms and i get quite excited! reminds me of being a child again and having that sensation of dread and excitement rolled into one.
  • I do. I think it is a matter of being awed by the power of nature. I am so awed that my sense of fear is over-ridden. The best was a storm at sea. The entire world, which was a 150 ft. freighter, was at the mercy of the storm. It was incredible. It was a miracle that I didn't get washed overboard because I wandered out on to the deck to experience it.
  • No! Storms are terrifying.
  • I find storms amazing and I love watching them, especially the lightning.
  • I only like storms if I am safe in a teacup.
  • Yes I love it and I just want to go home put in a movie and fall asleep half way through it.
  • All the other answers are great, about the security and excitement felt during storms, but one major contributing factor to the emotional response to storms is the increased level of negatively charged ions in the atmosphere which act on the brain. It's a physical thing with an emotional effect, an atmospheric valium, as it were.
  • Yes I love Storms , I would say that the feeling is more excitement than happiness.
  • Yes, I do. :)
  • Yes. Perhaps it is due to all the electricity in the air.
  • Yeah. I love just to watch outside at night and wait for that bolt of lightning to go by to light up the backyard as if it was daylight.
  • Yes, it's from the negative ions. It can happen at the beach, too or near a waterfall. They say that might be why Niagara Falls is so popular for honeymooners, all those negative ions from the volume of water falling. They can't help but be giddy and happy :-)
  • yes that would be me , bring on the thunder and lighting and downpour please the longer it lasts the better.
  • I'm actually terrified of storms, but I also live in "tornado alley", and have seen my share of tornadoes coming from storms. The only advantage of this is that my boyfriend knows I'm terrified, and he always holds me close and tries his best to reassure me and calm my fears. It's during those times when I feel his love at it's most tangible. So am I scared?...yes... Can I still be "happy" while terrified... that gets a yes too...
  • Yes. For some odd reason I love storms. I love the rain too.
  • I love storms..love the energy..makes me very happy :)
  • Yes, I feel a soothing sensation and a rush at the same time , a interesting feeling Good Question + 5
  • very much.
  • my favorite thing in the entire world is when i go to sleep with the windows and curtains open, to wake up with is still dark out and raining [not like in the windows, but so i can hear the drops hitting the roof/my window screens]. it makes me so happy. :]]]]
  • I like the approach of a storm, as soon as it starts getting dark, I go and sit on my deck and watch all the clouds twisting and turning, getting darker and darker, its exhilarating!!!! One big happy festival!
  • Stormy weather scares me to death but my BF loves it.
  • YES. As a martial arts master, trained in Chi development methods, static and other energies, present in higher levels during storms, can be absorbed, transformed into Chi, and stored in the body for years, to be re-transformed and used at any time. The process of doing this is very stimulating to the brain and the entire nervous system and leaves one with a bit of a euphoric high ... just a bit.
  • I love thunderstorms. I like the sound of rain and I also like to play in the rain whenever there isn't any lightning. I especially like when it rains on warm days. The only time I do not entirely love rain is whenever it is cold outside and I still have to walk to my classes on a college campus, but I still don't dislike the rain enough to bother using an umbrella. Whenever it rains I always get to class soaking wet.
  • I wanted to comment here because I felt this deserved that - but really, Takei-Shihan20 on Jul 14, 2007 at 8:24 pm (answer #2) said it all, so I have no need. Principally though, storms change static charge in the air & surrounds, so yes, of course our emotions change with that .. the happiness comes due to the loss of tensions we normally & unwittingly or unknowingly gather. If you've seen an angry person lose potency of anger when washing hands for example, there's proof.
  • I thought I was the only one to feel this way.
  • I don't think happy is the word, excited would be the correct term for me. There is soemthing wonderful and peaceful in the calm after the storm. When it starts to thunder or lightening at my job I get nervous sitting by the computer monitor and just wait until the power fails and we sit in the dark.
  • Nah, I feel relaxed.
  • I raise both arms and bring them down and yell "YES" and run out into the street in my rubber boots and splash around doing a little dance in all the puddles that i can find. Happy, I am ecstatic!
  • not me, i hate storms
