  • This can acutually depend wheras the city you are living in right now. As far as I know, the average legal age in KY is 14 years of age, although that they still do not recommend it.
  • There are very few states in the U.S. with legal minimum ages for children home alone, but many state agencies have published guidelines. Georgia, Illiniois, Maryland and Oregon are a few of the states with specific ages specified in their laws. 12 years of age appears to be the most common recommendation. http://www.latchkey-kids.com/latchkey-kids-age-limits.htm provides one guideline from a California agency representative who suggests that 8 year olds and over can be left at home for up to several hours (usually after school before a parent gets home from work). This site also provides a state by state comparison with references. Kentucky does not appear to have any legal minimum age requirements for children left home alone. According to the reference in the link below: "ANITA BARBEE, associate research professor of social work at the UNIVERSITY OF LOUISVILLE: "It's tough to establish a set rule for determining when a child is old enough to be home alone safely. That's why the law tends to be loose on this issue. In Kentucky, we investigate cases in which a child 8 years old or younger is reported to be home alone."
  • Wow, it is amazing how many "answer your question" sites have this very question. Many folks in Kentucky must be eager to leave their kids alone at home. The answers have all been vague and run form 8 to 13, but most state that the amount of time alone is a big factor. I recommend you call your local child services and ask them what age they would act on if someone called them and reported your kids were alone.
  • ACCORDING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCAIL SERVICES IN KY 12 IS THE LEGAL TO AVOID BEING CHARGED WITH NEGLECT OR ABUSE........I KNOW THIS FROM WORK EXPERIENCE AND THE FACT THAT THEY WERE CALLED ON MY SISTER AND SHE DIDNT GET INTO ANY TROUBLE BECAUSE THE CHILD WAS 12.....HOWEVER THEY ARE NOT QUALIFIED AT THAT AGE TO CARE FOR CHILDREN YOUNGER THAN THEM ALONE THAT DOES START IN THE 14 TO 15 YOA RANGE
