Lack of excitement in life?

It has action and destruction...I mean you could very well ask the same of any macho action film. People just seem to enjoy this kinda stuff. It's entertainment, and perhaps gives food for thought to some-what would it really be like if something like this happened, for example. I have no real answer, maybe because people think it's fun, or they're interested in seeing the special effects...probably lotsa reasons, despite how shallow some of these might be.

because western culture got too comfortable. we love scaring ourselves with these worst case scenarios because we've grown complacent with our lifestyle. . whether that's a bad thing or not is up for debate, of course.
