Do you think people become gay due to nurture, nature, a combinatin of the two or a conscious decision? Why do you think that?

I know everyone has their own theories; but after years of knowing and observing gay people, I feel it's just the way they are born, for the most part. There are people who are curious; may try it, and/or who go back to living as a hetero or back into denial, but I personally feel it's genetics. I remember what it was like a long time ago before people became more tolerant. No one would have chosen to be treated like they had the plague or treated with such disdain, as they were; unless they were being honest with themselves about who they really were. IMHO.

Most gay people know they are gay very early on leading me to believe that they are born that way. If they find out later it is probably because they have suppressed their natural inclinations. It is also true that many people are bisexual. Sexuality is a continuum, not a series of discrete categories.

I don't know personally know any LGBT person (or straight person, for that matter) that has claimed they ever "chose" their sexual orientation. Now, there are some folks who are in denial longer than others, and don't come out until later in life...which may lead some people to think that they have "become" gay or perhaps "chose" to be gay. Neither is true. Even though society has become more accepting over the years, because of the discrimination many of us still face, some of us live our lives in the closet for years before ever coming out. I've talked with a number of gay people and they all said that they did not choose to be gay. One person said flat out, "why would I choose a lifestyle where I risk be ostricized and have repercussions in my career if it ever came out?" I wish people would accept them for who they are, allow them to have equal rights, and just let them live their lives.

Nature. I was gay before I knew what sexuality was about. As early back as I can remember, I was attracted to the male of the species. I wanted to marry my invisible friend, who was a male nudist :P I had crushes on my older brother's friends... Though I don't remember it, I am said to have told one rather shocked 16-year old that I wanted to marry him when I was about 3.
