I quit when they reached $8.00 a carton! NOW their cost is INSANE!!!! I have NO sympathy for anyone who cries POVERTY and SMOKES!
-
When I quit smoking in 1979, part of the reason was the fact that a single pack of cigarettes had SKYROCKETED to the totally ridiculous price of 75¢, and I was convinced that no one in their right mind would ever pay THAT much money for only 20 smokes. Oh, how WRONG I was! +5
-
It was expensive before they hiked the tax....but it does make me think twice when buying them....Still has yet to motivate me...i want to quit but for different reasons
-
I quit March 20th this year and the majority of the reason was the high prices for them.
-
I'm sure it has, but the new "graphic" cancer picture warnings they're adding onto the cigarette packs might stop them from smoking even more!
-
If the mind is not open to the wanting to quit and the focus of quitting the addiction no matter what, the price can be $20 a pack and people will keep on puffin.
-
I've read a few times about people that cited cost as the reason they quit.
-
noto at all, just changed brands.. .i used to be a newport smoker now i smoke cools.. and its crazy that the 100's are less than the regulars.... maybe becasue not many people buy them, but you get more cig, for less....
-
nope i still smoke and plan to not stop for it the only thing i love :)
-
I actually spoke to a friend of mine that works at Town Pump and she says sales are just the same as it was 10 yrs ago. Addiction is Addiction, no matter what the price!!! There will always be people that will pay the $5.75 for a pack! +5

The demand curve for cigarettes is practically flat. Meaning that changes in price don't have that much effect on the amount sold.
-
No, but it really motivates me not to start smoking again.
-
Most of the hike in the price of cigarettes are tax. If you believe that this is because the government is trying to stop you smoking, I have an excellent deal for you, no cheques, small bills only.
-
Yes, my car died and I had to get a new one and I couldn't pay for cigarettes and make car payments. Every once in a while, if I have an extra $9.00 I will buy a pack but that is few and far between.
-
Not yet. I still buy the same brand. Kinda loyal to it. But it is rising up and up. Maybe when it gets to £6 i will quit
-
No, it hasn't. My mom manages a convience store (and has worked in one for the past 10 years) and she is a smoker herself. She says the only change she has seen in cigarette sales is that the name brand sales have actually went up and the cheaper cigarette sales has went down. Her customers say that if they are going to pay a high price for a cigarette, they might as well smoke the good stuff.
-
I don't smoke, but they should be at $20+ a pack. That might convince people to quit.
-
it hasnt caused me to quit, but it has caused me to cut way the hell back! from a pack a day to a pack every 3-4 days.
-
Actually, for me it was the introduction of the flame retardant chemicals, meant to but the unattended cigarette out by itself. It just made them taste repulsive.
-
I quit in 2005 because of an accidental exposure to a chemical. What kept me from starting again was remembering the feeling when I passed out because I couldn't breath and the fact that cigarettes are now more than $5. per pack. When I started they were $3 per carton and we could get "sea stores" for a dollar a carton.
-
Not my wife. She smokes more now. +3

Even when I had nowhere to live and was on the street for a short while, it was just a minor inconvenience.
