  • If you don't read the Bible, how can you learn about Jesus who is the basis for Christianity....? Jesus also got his followers together for a ministry work. Don't know how never meeting up will accomplish that. Are you looking at becoming a Christian? http://www.watchtower.org/e/200704b/article_01.htm http://www.watchtower.org/e/20040301/article_02.htm
  • The bible defines Christian. In fact, if you believe in Jesus is God's son. Talk about God in groups, mainly on sunday. You should be good. The trick is how do you know the morals. So, the bible is kinda like the manual.
  • Depends on what kind of Christian you want to be. They aren't all the same.
  • You can, but it's a lot tougher. I mean, you have to find a pastor outside of church, and convince him to test you not in the church. And the tests are harder too, because when you face the trivia panel blindfolder in a tub of ice, it's a lot harder to answer correctly if you don't know what they're talking about. It can be done, but you have to be pretty dedicated, and pretty ballsy, I mean, if you fail, they cut out your tongue and pour molten lead down your throat. (Yes you can. All you have to do is claim to be a christian and most people won't know the difference.)
  • Why not? You can be anything your imagination will allow if you stay at home and keep it to yourself! ;-)
  • Yeah you can, most people never read the bible except a few pages. But why would you? You wouldn't buy a car without driving it and checking the engine. Or buy a house without having it checked out, why choose a religion without knowing anything about it?
  • No, Satan knows the Bible just as perfect as God does. If a person wants to become a Christian, then he/she has to accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior through a Christian church. You can become a Non-denominational Christian and you can also have a free will to do other things In life, meaning you do not have to be In church most of the time. The Importance would be that you read the Bible and carry your own church Inside of your heart +)

This is why I am a Liberated Christian. Although over the years I have read the Bible through many times but not all at once. I have also studied and researched many books. Reading the Bible is only part of the study of the Lord God and Jesus Christ.
  • Christianity is believing that Jesus is son of God (Christ) It is just a part of bibical / religious beliefs. There are many "Christian" religions My answer is Yes. If you believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the son of God in heavan than you are a Christian.
  • If someone believes and trusts that Jesus Christ was the Son of God, that He suffered and died for our sins, and was resurrected and will return again, the answer is yes. But, to maintain a relationship with Him, you'll want to get to know Him more and more-- just like in any other relationship. He talks to you through the Bible, and He puts other believers in your life--that's called the Church. Find a Bible that easy to read, like the 'New Century Version', or 'The Message', or the 'New Living Translation'.
  • If you believe in good thoughts, good words, and good deeds, you can call yourself a good Christian, or a good Muslim, or a good Hindu, or, for that matter, even a good Zoroastrian. At bottom, all religions exhort us to follow the same path.
  • Yes, I think that is somewhat common. Most people hear about Christianity from a Christian friend or acquaintance, who witnesses to them how it has changed their life. At some point, the witness may ask the someone whether they would like to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior. They may say the sinners' prayer then and there, wherever they are. Sometimes they come to church first, but not always. Reading the bible usually comes later.
  • Of course. Most new Christians become Christian because of evangelization and not reading the Bible or going to church. (Although reading the bible and going to church is strongly encouraged after you become a Christian.) Evangelization is giving witness to God as revealed through Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit in a simple and direct manner. It includes the renewing of humanity, witness, explicit proclamation, adherence with the heart, entry into the community, acceptance of signs, and apostolic initiative. It means to carry the good news to all areas of human life and through its influence transform from within and renew humanity itself, but without pressure. With love in Christ.
  • Yes but you must be witnessed to then God must draw you to show you ,you are a sinner in need of a Saviour his name is Jesus Christ and without him you will spend eternity in Hell.Youmust invite him in Jesus is a gentleman he wont come in unless hes asked. Revelation 3:20 20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Then his divinity inhabits my humanity and I am born again.John 3;1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
  • Yes you can then when you become a Saint a servant of God only through Jesus Christ you will want to read the Bible and go to church
  • Yes. If you truly believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins and you accept him into your life then you are a Christian. Once you accept Jesus you are going to have a strong desire to do what He wants you to do and then you will start reading the Bible and talking to other people that have done the same thing (church). You can become a christian without reading the bible or going to church but you won't grow as a christian if you don't read the bible and go to church.
  • I don't think so. Christianity is a highly organized religion. Just believing in Jesus wouldn't make one a Christian. One will have to do all that is prescribed by the Church and Clergy to be accepted as a Christian.
  • All they have to do is identify with a brand of christianity, doesn't mean they have to educate themselves in it. Just like I'm Irish...I identify with the Irish. But it doesn't mean I have to go to Ireland. I have gone, but never had to to still identify with the Irish.
  • When I was in my early teens I was sent to a christian camp called 'teen ranch' every summer holidays. I never attended church...but I was told the way to become a christian is to ask Jesus into your heart....from then on you are a christian...then I suppose its up to you on wether you want to go to bible groups or church....but I dont think its necessary...
  • The Bible and church are there to guide someone towards becoming a better person, should they decide to strive for that. Aside from that, they are tangible things that appeal to the dominant senses. We are in corporeal form, and it is in our nature to want to see, feel, taste, smell and hear something in order to categorize it. In other words, it makes a thing more real to us. That's basically why they exist. +5
  • Absolutely. It happened both to my mom, myself (although I had heard how), and my best friend. He has said that we will be judged "according to our own understanding". There are many web sites that a person can look up questions or phrases remembered.
  • yeah sure. who's gonna say you can't be a certain religon?
  • Sure. Just start doing all the things you preach are bad, and turn your back on the ones who thought you were their friends, and you'll be off to a strong start.
  • yeah. you'll be just like all the other christians that have never read the bible & don't go to church. which is a lot.
  • Christianity isn't a written test. It's the acceptance of Jesus as your personal savior.
  • I was raised Catholic and strict Catholics are not really supposed to read the bible. But, you def have to go to church.
  • Of course you can. Ever heard of the good Samaritan, he did more good than all the church goers put together. If you feel you are living a good life, not hurting anyone and sometimes are able to help someone not as well off as you, you are a good person, a christian. You don't have to be called a Christian if you don't want to, as long as you know you are happy with your life and can give something toward those who aren't, what else could you be but (there shouldn't have to be a name) a Christian. I would rather hear you called "A good person."
  • yeah. you'll be just like all the other christians that have never read the bible & don't go to church. which is a lot.
  • I'm very disappointed in the majority of the answers here. There is no such thing as a "wham bamm thank you mam" religious experience. If you think you can become a "Christian" without knowing Christ first, you are terribly mistaken.
  • I believe you can. How about those people who get a 'calling'.
  • no, one needs church in some manner to be a Christian. a person on an island without a Bible, needs a set apart church to find peace and quiet.
  • All ya gotta do to join is to sing it when it comes around on the GITar...with feelin because if you don't have enough feelin your prayers won't get answered. No wait..your prayers won't be answered anyway.. Any damned fool can be chistshun..cristshuninsanity lets any damned fool in except me.
  • I'm sure it's happened a few times over the years...
  • First, we need to define what "Christian" means... http://www.gotquestions.org/what-is-a-Christian.html I haven't read every answer, but there's a great deal of incorrect information here. I would suggest studying the Bible and researching the answer for yourself rather than asking AB...that is what the Bible is for.
  • Yes, if a man can become a pilot without flying an aeroplane.
  • yes :) but when you are a christian , reading the bible and being around other people who go to a church and read the bible you will understand so much more about being a christian :). the bible has so much answers , if you just read it :)
  • To be a Christian means to be like Christ, so one needs to actually know Christ. Just being a "good person" dosen't get it (so to speak) with God. The bible states in Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God". In His love however, God reached out to us to bring us into right standing with Him by sending us the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ. Note Bible verse - John 14:5-7 - Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: NO MAN cometh unto the Father, but by me". Also note Romans 10:9-10 - "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation". Also note John 1:11-13: "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name" So, one has to believe the testimony of the Bible about Jesus Christ and personally RECEIVE Him by confessing (or asking Him to come into their life) to BECOME a Christian and be right (or righteous) with God. In closing - So say a prayer out loud to receive Jesus Christ into your heart,to become a Christian. Then pray and look for a good Church that teaches from the Bible. Also read the word yourself so you can have peace in your circumstances, and find the tools to grow to be a strong Christian! The gospel of John in the New Testament is a good place to start - God bless you all. I will be praying for you - Minister Boyd
  • Yes, I suppose. I feel that if you believe in Chirst you are a Christian. The question is where do you get your basis for believing in Christ if you don't do the other things...
  • Yes, I think so. IMHO, if a person is introduced the Christ and excepts him as there Lord and Saviour, they will be born again. Hence, a Christian. A book does not make a Christian. A church does not make a Christian. The Holy Spirit dwelling in someone, guiding there life. The person giving up themselves to allow the Holy Spirit to dwell within them. This is what makes a person a Christian. So, as I see it, yes you can be Christian, even if you do not go to church or read the Bible. Yet, as a Christian... You will desire to be around like people and want to learn (read) more about your Saviour.
  • Yes. God speaks to people in a multitude of ways. My personal "church" is the wilderness. There I feel closer to God than I could in any building.
  • anything is possible
  • Yes, you can. Nowhere does it say in the Bible you have to read it and go to church. All you need do is ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart and ask forgiveness of all the wrongs you have done in your life. Reading the Bible is a good help but just reading and not understanding what is said isn't much help. Reading the Bible and putting what you read in today's culture and meanings of words will leave you lost with misunderstanding. Read the book, "The Royal Law of Liberty" by Darwin Chandler and you will learn how to read and understand the Bible. Churches are little more than social clubs today. Churches teach their particular doctrine twisting the Word to suit their needs. I quit going to churches years ago.

Quote: "Yes, you can. Nowhere does it say in the Bible you have to read it" You have to read the Bible in order to get sanctified. John 17:17 "Sanctify them in the truth; your Word is truth."
  • You don't have to go to church to become a Christian. Take it from the non-denominational Christians. Many of them left their churches, because the majority of churches are too concerned with their "prestige and luxury," while the gullible supporters are only enriching them even more. Watch this YouTube video to see how many so-called pastors go against the teachings of Jesus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSqi2LCJ7iU Not that they care, but as you see, you do have to read the Bible to "test all spirits" to see if they from God. On the contrary, those ravening wolves in churches want to keep their congregations blind, so they can make it easy as taking candy from a baby. Hebrews 5:13 "For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the Word of righteousness: for he is a babe."

A side note: if anybody tells you that Hebrews 10:25 says you shall not stop congregating with each other: simply tell them there was a time when the river was clean and pure, until it got polluted. Let's see what the Bible states: 2 Peter 2:1-3 "But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. 3 And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep."
  • God exists within you as you..... All that is needed is for you to experience Christ Consciousness within yourself...
  • The vast majority of people who self identify as Christians did not pass a test, get any kind of certification, or have even read the Bible, they just began calling themselves Christians. You are welcome to do the same thing.
  • probably
  • Sure, but try the Catholics, while not perfect (very few sinners are)!
  • i think so
