  • I would have to say thats an Old wives tale in my opinion because I've never heard of shock being the cause of white hair,I thought it was caused by old age!:) There are alot of factors that might cause this,in some cases grey hair may be caused by a throid deficiencies or a deficiency of vitamin B12:)
  • No, it is possible. It takes weeks, but there are documented cases.
  • I've heard of it happening to people under major stress conditions.
  • Shock and stress can cause hair (some or all) to start coming in white, but what you've grown already won't just change instantly. My best friend in college started growing a massive shock of white hair from his widow's peak right after his mom died.
  • A friend's parents died within 3 months of each other. I saw him 2 months later with white hair. He wasn't doing too well physically either.
  • Hi hear it from a professional. Yes,hair can turn white due to shock, stress, illness and medication....you can also lose your hair for these reasons too...... Dont mess with stress,if you wanna keep that tress.
  • I had a friend that went over to Nam just for 3 month's, he had black hair when he left and all white when he came back.. So yes.
  • I'm not sure if shock could cause it, but I know from personal experience that stress does.... :/ Lol...
  • i vote for old wives tale
  • I think it's true. I'm not sure who she was, but i was told that someone in my family(or friend of the family)turned white headed "instantly" when she found out her son was killed.
  • I started to get a few gray hairs and highlights when I was around 20 and under quite a bit off stress. Since then, it's returned to normal and there's none to be found. Go figure. I think it's mostly genetics but possible with a mix of that and extreme circumstances.
