  • Not really. To know that I would have to have lived everywhere in the world. I can say that it's the best place I know of to live or the best place I've lived and I'm very happy here but to claim it's the best place I think would be pompous on my part. I think we Americans tend to stuff our views down the throats of others. Cool thought though. :-)
  • Many of the people who say that have never set foot outside the US, and none of them have seen everywhere else.
  • Have you ever lived anywhere else? I never lived in America but from what I've seen on TV I'd rather stay here in Holland.
  • Nope, I'd rather be here living in Australia.
  • Nope, I'd so much rather live in Canada or continue living in New Zealand :)
  • I've been all over the world. For all of it's faults, it's still a helluva lot better than many other shitholes they call countries. Australia if full of poisonous, well everything. Holland is gonna get flooded sooner or later. And Saudi? Forget it!
  • As an American, I'm supposed to agree with that statement, but this country never seems to make even the top five on the list of best quality of life per country.
  • Don't know really cause I didn't visited USA yet, but Croatia with magnificent Mediterranean climate is the best place in the world to live if you are socially situated.
  • Nope. I'd rather stay where I live right here in Canada.
  • I feel the same about the UK.
  • Try living in Tijuana, Mexico for 30 days. You will kiss the ground in America. We may not have the perfect place to live, but it beats anything else thats out there. Key word is FREEDOM.
  • No,I do not.I believe that every country has it's good and bad differences, along with everyone's individual perspectives, but I've been needing a change, and wish to one day be able to move out.*+++++*
  • yes..right along with our SUPREME PATRIOTS...our elite military forces.....i have never, even in childhood, wanted to live in any other country...maybe because since childhood, i have always UNDERSTOOD the sadness and oppressions of those who LIVE UNFREE and DICTATED to....
  • America may have some advantages over some countries but it is no better and in many ways less desireable than many countries. I believe Canada is a much better place to live. I lived in Ontario for a number of years and loved it there. I have also lived in Mexico and although the people are poor and do not have much according to US standards they are generally a happy people. Americans are gluttons and self-centred and when in a foreign country can very often make royal asses of themselves. How do I know this? I am an American and I have observed how so many act when in another country. So NO, I do not think America is the best place to live in the world. I have lived in enough or been in enough other countries to know. I have had to hang my head in shame at some of the things I see Americans do.
  • I'm quite happy in little old England thanks. America has nothing extra to offer that we don't already have here - Or in any other modern country for that matter. We have a better education system. We are nowhere near as racist and voilent as you. we have free healthcare (granted, not as good as Americas... but FREE) Poor people in America REALLY ARE POOR, and you don;t look after them nearly as well as you should. Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing place to visit, not least for cheap food and ridiculously oversized portions, but i could never live there!
  • No, I perfer Italy
  • Depends if you want opportunity of not. We can bitch about America all we like, but the GLOBAL reality is that America is where the real consumers live. If you can't make money off the American consumer with your silly products, you can't make money with them at all.
  • Not one bit.
  • If you have money its true
  • How can you possibly know that it's the best place to live in the world, unless you lived in every other country in the world? I'm just going to say: beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
  • I moved to Thailand 4 years ago. I don't plan to ever move back. Does that answer your question? As an Expat, all in all, I'd prefer to live in any of the following (in no particular order) ahead of the USSA: Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Andorra, Norway, Austria, Italy, Spain, France (the South-except Marseilles, Polynesia, or the Caribbean only), Monaco, Ireland, the UK, Malta, Morocco, Egypt, Dubai or Abu Dhabi, Kenya, South Africa, Botswana, Turkey, Cyprus, India, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Hungary, Czech Republic, Mexico, Brazil, Belize, Panama, Costa Rica, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Brazil, China (Yunnan), Taiwan, Indonesia, Fiji, the Solomons, Micronesia, Grand Cayman, most of the Caribbean islands, Malaysia, or even Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, and of course Thailand. As a native (and ordinary) citizen, however, I'd limit it to Lichtenstein, Switzerland, Norway, Andorra, Grand Cayman, New Zealand, Singapore, Monaco, the Netherland Antilles, and maybe Australia.
  • I would have to agree with you, granted our government is greedy and they make it harder for the working person to get by and live the american dream, but i am greatful that i was born here. I watch international news and documentaries and you know what we got it made here we have Freedom and i don't think it could be any better then that, so what we don't have free dental and they give ssi to pretty much anybody and welfare, but we can say what we want, dress how we want, and go anywhere we want we don't have to worry about getting shot because we are catholic and not christian.
  • I have only visited, so I can't say... although the Powers that be have consistently listed Scandinavian and other European countries as the best places to live in the world =) They certainly have a better democracy, less crime and a higher quality of life than the average American. Besides, it is all open to personal feeling and interpretation anwyway. The 'best' does not exist. =)
  • True for the Northern Hemisphere perhaps, but I'm not so sure we beat Australia, New Zealand, and other similar places.
  • There is no consensus "best place to live in the world". For some people it is, but plenty of people have other preferences.
  • It's great here. Why? Because we can take advantage of anything and everything we want, even if we don't realize what we're taking advantage of.
  • I've only lived in the US, so I can't say if it's the BEST place to live. I do know that I love living here and have a good life. I also know that there are lots of other wonderful places on earth to live. That's why I love it here on AB, we get to know people from all over the world and see how their lives are. It's a great education!
  • I think the US is great, but i'd have to say Canada beat you as they have pretty much everything you guys have, well - you beat them on climate, but they win on a health care and lower violent crime.
  • I've never lived anywhere else but the United States, but honestly believe it's the best place to live because of the freedoms we as Americans still possess. +4
  • 1) I only agree with the first part (America isn't perfect). 2) "In America we never learn about other countries. We only learn about how great America is and that other country isn't so important. I mean we are always helping other poor countries with war and giving them food. • now that our Pres is pushing socialistic ideals, I'm doubting the US is the best place to live more every day
  • it all depends on how you define best, according to the standard of living statistics, no its not my opinion, yes its a great place to live
  • As much as im proud to be an American(or used to be proud) there are far better places to live than in the USA, most of them in Europe. Their brand of Socialism ensures a higher standard of living for more people than could ever be achieved here with our robber-baron run away, everyone for themselves capitalism. So no, i dont think the US is the best place in the world to live in.
  • It's the best place for me to live as long as it is in NYC.
  • Definitively it is the very best place in the world. So Americans should better stay in their huge and beautiful, country. Elsewhere it is not better at all but rather worse.
  • I rarely swear on AB, but my answer to your question is ab-so-fucking-lutely!!
  • America certainly isn't perfect, though it has it's interesting elements. The country has absolutely fabulous diversity of terrains and is very beautiful. The idealism of the liberal foundation on the nation is quite amazing as well, and its tenets permeate the culture. "Freedom" and "justice" are held in people's minds like the spoken words of a god. The history of the nation is deep and moving, despite it's brevity. America is indeed the best place to live... if you are straight, conformist, born citizen, and make enough money to send your kids to private school and purchase your own health care. If these don't apply to you and you still believe you are living in the best place on earth, I'm sorry, but you've been lied to.
  • No. I would prefer Sweden, or Australia or even Japan, assuming I could learn the language. I think America would be my fourth choice.
  • No. I think it used to be the best place to live until recently. America is a great country but sadly it's in decline. I doubt the country will even exist in 10 years. The states will break up and be absorbed into an american union. There is a massive agenda to form a world government. The powers that be intend to create a pan american union with a single currency as a stepping stone towards full globalism. The current financial crisis has been engineered to further this goal. In order to integrate the American continent they need to reduce US to the economic level of south america and allow free immigration to break down the culture.
  • I agree.
  • NO TOO MUCH CRIME FOR ME
  • I agree that it isn't perfect, but I doubt its the best place to live in the world. Everywhere has something good about its living. I have only lived in America in this life, but I have been to other countries and have found that in ways, they have it better.
  • From an American point of view I would like to believe so, but I've seen other people in some other part of the world who have just as good and in many instances, even better living conditions than many Americans and have absolutely nothing to envy us for. I'm quite sure those people feel the same way about their country.
  • Not necessarily, no. I am not sure how you define the word "best". :)
  • Nope, because Norway and Iceland are constantly voted to have the highest standards of living in the world by many agencies, and I'll agree with them. I wish I had money to go visit other countries.
  • Don't get around much?
  • No i dont agree
  • How can I know whether it's the best place if it's the only place in which I've lived? That's like saying chocolate ice cream is best even though I haven't tasted other kinds. I do agree with the principles upon which the US is founded. Unfortunately, they aren't enforced with any degree of consistency.
