Jesus H. Christ The "H" stands for "Harold," from the Lord's Prayer, "Our Father, who art in heaven, Harold be thy name." (just kidding) Actually nobody knows what the "H" stands for. But the most reasonable theory seems to be "Holy" as in Jesus Holy Christ. This is a common blasphemy in the South which was then shortened to "H" by fast-talking Northerners. With love in Christ.

It stands for Jesus (Hay-suess) Christ. It is the phonetic spelling of Jesus.
-
Harold, as in, "Our Father, who art in Heaven, Harold be thy name..." Actually, Jesus' Greek monogram was IHC. That's probably where it came from.

Just tonight I was playing Prototype, and one of the characters said "Jesus H. Christ", and I had that exact thought, what does the H stand for? I would guess hell, but holy sounds like it could be right as well.

I love that question! Taking the Lord's name is vain isn't good, but the whole Jesus 'H.' Christ thing has always puzzled me, too.

I think Bowen in right.

Fricken. But I could be wrong.

Jesus Christ Himself.

Nice blasphemous question there.
-
No. It's Howard "Our father, who art in heaven, Howard be thy name"
-
The "H" stands for nothing. Jesus has no middle name. It is said that way by people who do not respect Jesus and use his name in vain as a cuss word.
