  • Realise that black hair and fair skin is beautiful! It happens to be my personal favourite combination, and millions of other peoples too, so be proud of your gifts and learn to enhance and appreciate them.
  • I think dark hair with light skin is quite exotic looking. Very beautiful. I can imagine it's a pain about leg hair though. You should try waxing. Other than that, embrace it!!
  • You have two choices. Accept it, and work with what you have... or dye your hair blonde and go tanning and look like everybody else.
  • I don't know why you would hate that, but you could use higlights in your hair: http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art28579.asp
  • If what you dislike the most is having dark hair on your legs and arms, you can wax and remove it. Waxing isn't (in my opinion) painless, but it generally removes well, stays gone longer and usually the hairs grow back a bit finer in texture and often in less profusion than they started out. I would suggest a splurge at a salon for the first time, if you can swing it...just so it's well done..with no effort from you! You can decide after that if you want to try it at home, or pay someone else to do the work. As for "the Look." I too admit to being enamored of this color combo. I'm a natural strawberry blond (very gold in color) with pink toned fair skin. I love my hair, but could do without the red undertone to my skin! lol You can look into dying, or lightening your black. I KNOW my hair color is not an optimum for color games. I would suggest you speak to a colorist to find out if YOURS poses similar challenges in the color dye department! I'd also suggest that you find a WIG, (it need not be an expensive one) in the color that you believe you would be the most happy with. Wear it, even if only in the house, (if it's really a nasty, cheap wig you don't want to wear out), just to get a feel for the COLOR and how that color makes you look and feel. The fact that many of US love your skin and hair color hardly helps YOU, aside from perhaps making you aware that many do, and will see this as a huge positive. If you choose to stay natural, look into your wardrobe! Your coloring allows for some very beautiful, bright, clear JEWEL-LIKE clothing colors to be worn. You can pull off the BOLD colors, the earth colors, and more than likely even some pastels... Never settle for solid blacks, unless you are going for the Gothic look...when wearing black, add some bold splash of color;likely you can do the deep, rich REDS...that I can only long for, electric blues, deep purples or earthy russets, will add a color interest and vibrancy to your basic black. I would be careful with whites...you don't want to wash out your face. Only if you are doing WELL APPLIED makeup would I suggest whites for you, and choose any whites you wear with the shade of white on your TEETH. If you are a professional or if make-up is important to you, it would be worth it to go to a REAL make-up artist and get a color work up. The trick is to enhance what you have, not look painted up! While you can probably carry a more bold look...it depends too on your facial structure, height, weight, daytime, or nighttime applications...they are different! THIS will cost you some money to do...save up if you have to so you can get it right. They should not only help you choose the right colors, that will bring out your best, but also what brands will work best for your skin type, texture and so on, AND TEACH you how to do what they will create on your own! Unless you are traveling in a pretty high up crowed frequently, or attending an evening "black tie" cocktail or dinner event...while you might carry off bold Make-up, you don't want to over do it. There's a time and a place, and what works well at the office isn't what you'd wear to a hoity-toidy sort of event! <wink> These are some options...and of course minimal, very sheer and natural looking is also a most beautiful way to go, in my opinion...however...it is YOUR opinion that matters the most here...you deserve, want and need to feel as good as possible about yourself. I hope something here springboards some ideas that will work for you!
  • You will do better accepting yourself as you are. I would look to understand why I didnt like myself and then change that.
  • definatly don't die your hair, black hair is so rare! you never see it any more, only people who have died their hair. And don't go to a tanning salon. Now thats just gross! Get a real tan at the beach when the time comes, but be sure to use sunscreen, or then you will be red w/ black hair. you will have to find out which sunscreen will give you the best tan. Other than that, i can't help you out much...
  • Have you dyed it black, or is it natural? Either way, black hair and fair skin can be a lovely combination. I don't know what your personal style is, but dark hair on light skin can go so many ways - edgy, elegant, professional. Play around with different looks to make the combination work for you.
  • Dye your hair blonde and buy a tanning machine. Seriously, make the best of what you have. Laurel? makes a great tanning lotion. its rated no. 1 in Consumer Reports Magazine.

  • i knew a girl that had that same problem not too long ago.with her jet black hair it made her look blanched and pale because of her very light skin.she dyed her hair a medium dark brown and that was perfect for her.
  • Don't do anything about it. That is a beautiful combination.
  • Fair skin? Use sunscreen. There is nothing wrong here?
  • I think that look is very pretty, but I'm sure you think different. I'm also a black female, I don't know if that information makes you feel any better. Don't beat yourself up over it, there are worse things in life.
  • Black hair and fair skin is very desirable and beautiful in my opinion, but it's your body, so it's up to you what to do with it. Try dying your hair, perhaps?
  • go blonde and get a tan!
  • I have the same.It used to bother me too.I tryed lightening hair.It went thru various shades of red.Not good...Tryed tanning but burn and still not very tan.Even sunless tanners, etc don`t do well. Some look terrible. Some work a little...The best is to like yourself as you are if possible....Pink is a great color.
  • Don't hate your looks. It sounds like you have beautiful hair and a lovely complexion. Just because fair skin isn't the popular loook, that doesn't mean it isn't beautiful or that some people don't find it very appealing. In fact, Victorian women consumed arsenic to achieve a fair complexion. Sooner or later, the fashion pendulum will swing back the other way. Also, don't worry about your hair. I think it sounds lovely. As a young girl, I always fantasized about having black hair because I thought it would compliment my fair skin and make me look like a princess. So don't worry about conforming to societal beauty standards, because your features are unique and some people might actually like to have them.
  • Ummm... Tan? or get highlights? Or like yourself the way you are? Get contacts? or like yourself the way you are?
  • I love the black hair, to pale skin contrast.. :D
  • Become a goth. You'll find much envy from other people like you then ;)
  • It's ok to be fair. I am fair and love it. If you stay out of the sun you will look younger when you are older. My boyfriend hates tan women and finds pale women beautiful. Besides, with the dark hair and the pale skin you will look like Snow White
  • How about Deal with it, that is what you are.
  • Dye your hair blonde or brown. I have fair skin too and dark hair does not suit people like that.
  • Dye your hair, buy some fake tan. Sorted.
  • I'm thinking of famous people like Vivian Leigh and many others who are considered classic beauties. I'd consider myself a rare gem ...with lots of options.

You could get tanned, you could dye your hair, get lenses, but if you are not happy with who you are and what you have - forget about being attractive. Oh, here is one more pale brunette. Gosh, she is gordgeous!
  • Relax and breathe deeply. It is a very attractive combination.
  • Use red makeup. Red, white and black are a killer color combo.
