If someone you knew had an imaginary friend that they firmly believed was real, wouldn't you think they were probably delusional? What if that imaginary friend told them to do mean or cruel things? What if he told them to do horrible, evil things? What if there was evidence that directly contradicted some of the things this imaginary being said but they refused to believe it? This is how some Atheists view Christians. They see that there is no hard evidence that a God exists and that there is some evidence that indicates things in the Bible cannot be true if taken literally. Therefore, a Christian (certainly the ones who insist in a literal interpretation of the Bible) appear delusional to them.

Frankly it's the christian belief system which does it, - your "god" is somewhat of a nutcase who seems to enjoy doing violent and pointless things for no good reason, your profits can never perform their magic to a skeptical audience, most of your present day religious leaders are either corrupt or certifiable nutcases or both. The world is not 6000 years old, it was not formed in 6 days, the order life was created is wrong, the flood story was stolen, so was the story of the savior, and MANY other things. . I'll tell you what's delusional. Believing that:   1. A force which we still don't understand, gravity, self-generated and developed the ability to bond protons, neutrons, and electrons together to form atoms, and developed the mathematical relationship to control the movement of all mass in the universe.   2. Mathematics magically self-generated and evolved itself to be able to describe everything in the universe.   3. Radiance self generated and limited its speed to 186K mi/sec.   4. All the other forms of energy self-organized, and formed symbiotic relationships with mass and gravity.   All organized without any intelligence involved. Now, that's delusional.

I am a Christian and I sometimes think I'm delusional about my faith. But then I consider the alternative, which makes less sense to me, even if there is no scientific observable evidence of a God. And hence I revert to my original beliefs.

B/c Christians and most religious folks believe the world and humans were created by a Great Invisible Spirit, who follows us around to see what we're doing with our genitals.

It's purely about faith. God cannot be proven to either exist or not exist. The atheists' beliefs are also faith. Faith that there is no higher power. Both could be delusional.
