  • You must find out how many calories you need based on your BMR. (Basic metabolic rate...google it) Then what many people consider healthy is a 40-30-30 diet. (40% carbs [mostly fibre and complex carbs], 30% protein[mostly lean protein], 30% fat[mostly healthy fats]). To burn fat you need to eat healthy, not less. And eat frequently too. A meal every 2-3 hours. You need to also get some kind of exercising program going involving resistance training and anaerobic exercise. This is assuming by "losing weight" you mean you want to "lost fat, add muscle, and increase your health and well being".
  • Counting all these things is odious and unnecessary and not something you want to do for the rest of your life! Here is an article I wrote about the Fill Your Plate Eating Plan: * http://hubpages.com/hub/The-Fill-Your-Plate-Eating-Plan * It is a sensible plan that is safe for anyone and easy to follow in all circumstances. Shift to this and add light to moderate exercise to your lifestyle, and you will begin not only to lose weight, but also to gain health! * I hope this is helpful! :) Suzanne
