Not bringing the food or acting uncaring or sarcastic.
-
being TOO flirty with my husband.
-
chew gum like a cow while im eating... =]
-
be rude and surly and not return the smile I will always give her first. I don't care about how long the food takes (that's not her issue), or whether the tea is not quite right (also not her issue), but everyone can be friendly.
-
Smoke while serving the food
-
flirting with my date.
-
NOT doing her job.
-
Taking forever to bring my food. I can understand it when it's the kitchens fault, but when the waitress is visiting with other customers or her friends while my food is sitting up there in that window between the kitchen and the counter, I decide not to tip.
-
If she's rude or make us wait forever for food and drinks.
-
Not serve us our food. If we don't eat, then we don't tip. ;)
-
About the only thing would be to completely walk out of the restaurant and go home. To me, this would show that they didn't really want the job [and about to get fired] so my tip wouldn't make a heck of a difference. Other than that, I can see no reason for being a chiseler.
-
Make a mistake and then not correct it. Don't get me wrong, I know - mistakes happen all the time and it's not necessarily the waiter's or waitress's fault. But it's when it's not corrected that we would not leave a tip. Or if they were REALLY rude, which has happened on more than a few occasions at a restraunt that we will no longer go to.

Steal my wallet.
-
Being a smart ass.
-
Maybe the first impression, the way she looks at me, etc etc.
-
when youve had an empty glass for 30 mins and your dying of thirst...and when they only come by to pick up the bill...
-
slow on the refills
-
Shooting your dinner companion.
-
If she:- Looks as if everything is too much effort. Is arrogant or miserable. Doesn't return my smile. The restaurant/cutlery/glasses are dirty.
-
This happened a while back. I got up to ask the other waitress for a refill, since ours had not been by since we had sat down and ordered, our waitress just stood there looking at me as i asked...no apology or anything...I should have reported her.
-
Being rude and not doing her job.
-
I always leave a tip but if the waitress was rude or didn't come back to refill my glass, it wouldn't be as much. My kids have been servers so I know they get busy.
-
Tip hot coffee in my lap whilst talking to her mates and then walking off without even noticing...owwwch
-
never bring my order.
-
Ignore me. I remember once when a waitress made my group wait more than 15 minutes before taking our order. Submit the incorrect order. Spill the food and drinks. Act rudely.
-
Well, getting the order wrong. Not getting replacement knives or such as requested. Not knowing about the meals being served, ie main ingredients, nuts, dairy etc... Rushing us through a meal when the place is not busy, that really annoys me.
-
Be rude or mean to me or not do your job. Most things I am willing to overlook as I've waited tables before, I know how difficult it can be, therefore I always go out of my way to be friendly and easy to deal with. If you've had a bad customer don't take it out on me.
-
Sneeze on you Tell you that you should order something "healthier" or smaller Ignore you, but flirt with your boyfriend Pick her nose
-
There are some restaurants and seating arrangements, where you can see the "waiting" area, so to speak, for servers. If i can see my server deeply engaged in a conversation with another server about her "wild time" last night with the guy she picked up from that dive bar near her apartment, and I repeatedly catch my server's eye and point that I would like her service, but she just goes back to the story... Sorry, but no tip for you. OK, maybe a dollar to cover the aspirin you clearly need to nurse the hangover from last night's "wild time".
-
say something racist, assuming that i think that way.
-
Spit in my food...
-
Being rude, ignoring me, making me wait while he/she talks and laughs it up with the other servers. I had one waitress who actually made fun of the way I spoke when I asked for more coffee.
-
having an attitude and insulting you
-
"What is one thing a waitress can do to cause you NOT to leave a tip?" There are many things. Overcharges that get no apology, which I have experience this quite a number of times, which a lot of servers DON'T apologize. Make you wait 20 minutes to get a soft drink or your check or get your check rung up. Being rude. Getting your entree completely wrong by putting in the order wrong with NOT telling the manager about it. The manager should be told and asked to give a comp. If the manager doesn't budge, the SERVER should pay out of their OWN POCKET a least $2 so they can get a decent tip instead of nothing. Give $2, get back subtracting the loss let's say $5 is better than zero, don't you think?
-
Well, I'm a server, and I always leave tips when I go out.
-
Arrogant
-
By never showing up at the table.
-
Bring my food and it is NOT hot!

Suggesting That The Caterpillar In My Salad Wasn't There When She Brought It To The Table. ...I Really Should Stop Planting Insect Larvae In My Dinner...
-
Never come back to my table and check on me at all -- + up
-
Coughing into her hand in front of me, while serving me.
-
punch me in the face...?
-
Roll their eyes and sigh audibly whilst waiting for me to order.
-
I can't think of a time where I left nothing for a tip. If my water glass never gets refilled and the service is incompetent, then I will tip a small amount.
