Sorry to reverse your question, but having only ever driven a manual transmission car (which I assume is what you mean by stick shift), I'd hate to drive an automatic as I'd probably end up braking with my left foot, and I'd hate not to have control of the gears
-
No I love it, Matter of fact when I just bought my new truck I had two to choose from. I chose the one with A six speed manual.
-
I have never driven any other kind. The nearest equivalent would be when I once drove a left-hand drive one night, which took a while to get used to.
-
Not at all, that is how I learned to drive
-
I'm not comfortable driving a stckshift, so yeah ,in a way I'm kinda scared.
-
Not at all.
-
I think learning to should be mandatory for a license. At one time, in Massachusetts, you had to take your road test on a manual transmission or you could only drive automatic. In their infinite wisdom, The Great And General Court of The Commonwealth of Massachusetts (our scandal-plagued state legislature) did away with that.
-
At first yes, but you'll get use to it. IT'S REALLY FUN! ....but not in heavy "stop and go" traffic.
-
I haven't driven one in over 12 years so I'd want to practice driving one around my hood a few times before I drove it a significant distance. Before that I drove a stick for about 30 years so I'm not afraid to drive one.
-
no its a lot of fun. but it does get old at times.
-
HELL no! I learned in a stick-shift. On the other hand, it's so much easier to eat an ice cream cone and talk on the phone when driving in an automatic.
-
I'm nervous the first time I drive one that I have never driven before, but overall no. This is silly, but the first time I drive a car with a stickshift it's kind of exciting. It doesn't take much for me. :)
-
no. i learned a real long time ago, but my grandparents bought me an automatic, so i'm a little rusty at it!
-
thats all i know how to drive. id be more scared of driving an automatic cause its not what im used to. id probably get used to it tho.
-
I'd rather have a stick shift instead of an automatic. Once I learned how to drive a vehicle with a stick shift I didn't want to go back to an automatic.
-
LOL YES!
-
theres only one stick im scared of ha!
-
I wouldn't say I am scared, but I am intimidated lol. I have no clue how to drive a stickshift! I assume I would look like an idiot!
-
No, but other people should be scared of my driving a stick shift.
-
No, I prefer it. :)
-
Heavens, no!
-
i've never tried to... i like driving on auto just fine :)
-
I hope not I've driven over the road truck w/ 2 shifters(a 6spd and a 4 spd)it had a total of 24 forward gears. It wasn't that bad you never used all of them...
-
Not at all. I learned on one and drove one until I was 22. I also have had them on occasion and have driven lots of trucks and pickups with sticks, some on the floor and with multi-speed axles.
-
Hells no! I had years of practice in treacherous driving conditions.
-
nope..prefer to drive manual.
-
Say what? I started out driving a stick-shift! I took my first driver's exam using a stick-shift.
-
Heck no...I love driving a manual. Automatic transmissions take all the fun out of driving.
-
Nope, that is what I've driven most of my life and I prefer it. I have more control on ice, snow and wet pavement with a stick and the brakes last longer too. I got 110,000 miles out of the first set of brakes with the first truck I bought new. And when I put brakes on it at 110,000 miles, it only needed pads and shoes, the rotors were fine. I always watch whats going on ahead of me and get off the gas when I see a red light or brake lights, but I could downshift when I still had a still. Unfortunately, I need a van now and family vans don't come in manual transmission.
-
over here in south africa, stick shift out numbers auto by something like 10-2
-
No. Haven't drive stick fo sum till just recently. I picked back up in a jiffy. Its like tieing yur shoes.
-
nope... my drifter has one =oP
-
No, I love a standard!!!!!
-
LOL!!!
-
Both of my cars have been stickshift. It's the automatic cars I'm scared of. Every time I drive one of those my clutch foot goes for the brake pedal when I get to a stop sign.
-
I learned to drive on one and miss it at times. :)
-
The only time I've driven anything else I kept doing emergency stops because I pressed my left foot on what I assumed to be the clutch.
-
no way!! ive just started to learn to drive, and i'm going 4 a manual licence(or stickshift or whatnot). that way i can legally drive both manual and automatic :):):)
-
Nope, love 'em.
-
Yes.
-
I love it!
-
Not at all. I drive one everyday.
-
No, doesn't makes any difference for me!Automatic or Manual Transmission, traffic Driving on the Right or on the Left, i can drive in comfort, without caring how far iam from home, on highways, in traffic, over bridges... i can be totally free of my driving anxiety.
-
I was scared the first couple of times, but eventually I got over it. Meanwhile, I've known people who say that, literally, they "wouldn't learn to drive a stickshift even if their life depended on it".
-
Hell no, thats how I got taught.
-
Considering I have no clue how to... yes!
-
No, I just need a patient instructor that is willing to teach me :)
-
no, no difference.
-
Nope. Haven't found one that I'm afraid of yet!
-
Shit no.
-
Not at all.
-
only when im high, then it seems like you have to be a whole lot more intricite with the shifting....
-
Nope. Better control of the vehicle in bad weather conditions.
-
my current truck is first automatic i have ever owned.for weeks i would stomp the clutch that wasn't there!
-
No -they are exhilerating with a great sense of control.
-
Depends on the connotation I guess.
-
Nope, I've never driven and automatic, no one i know drives a automatic. I dont think I would like it as you wouldnt have the clutch to help control the car.
-
I think there great! expecially when your flat shifting!!!
-
Nope. I drive one every day and wouldn't have it otherwise.
-
yes but i want a muscle car and most are in stick so i guess i will have to get over it someday
-
No> i have a stickshift and it's fun as hell. Especially on a hill with a car really close behind you, kind of a adrenilan rush no mean?
-
Stickshift is awesomeness!!! Its so fun!!!
-
no it is easy
-
No, I do it everyday. I love my car.
-
It's the first car I learned on...it's fun and a good skill to have. Once you master it, you will like it!
-
Most certainly not. I feel much safer with a stick over an automatic, because with a stick, I have complete control over exactly how much power and torque is going to the wheels. Sticks are way more reliable, longer lasting, require less maintenance, save gas, etc. The trick, if you've never driven a stick, is to find the "catch zone" - the point where it starts to grab. When you let out the clutch and just when it starts to grab, give it some gas and you're off!
-
Not if you aren't scared of the smell of clutch.
-
It isn't that I'm scared ; I just don't like doing it ... So; it is AUTOMATIC for me ...
-
Car insurance in Ireland is much cheaper if you drive a manual car instead of automatic. Most people driving here use stick shift.
-
No, I LOVE driving stickshifts. I learned how to drive a car on one and still, after 17yrs of driving, still own a car thats a stick. Not the car I learned to drive on but have always had a car that was a stick since then. I drive a mini van mostly now since we have a family but my husband's car is a stick. I enjoy taking that for spin now n then.
-
I prefer driving a stick shift - or as I call it, a manual transmission. I like knowing which gear I'm in, and knowing that when I put my foot down, power comes immediately (as long as I'm in the right gear).
-
No better than driving an automatic.
-
I am not afraid at all. In fact, I am so good at a stick that I can time my shifts correctly that I don't even need to use a clutch.
-
no, but its annoying. i like to use my free hand for texting and eating, not manually controlling a primitive form of auto.
-
Nah I like driving stick. In fact, I prefer it over automatic transmissions because it keeps me occupied...I get bored when I am driving and am more likely to engage in dangerous stuff like talking on my phone and fiddling with my radio. If I have to concentrate on my driving I am safer and just overall a better driver. And less likely to get distracted or fall asleep behind the wheel or something!
-
No, sticks were pretty common when I learned to drive.
-
Nope. I drive one now.
-
not unless i'm not used to it. My mom recently has been using my explorer so i've been driving the toyota, at first i was nervous cause i haven't used it alot, but now i'm pretty comfortable with it
-
A gearstick? Why would someone be scared of using a gearstick?
-
No, but I'm scared of riding in the passenger seat while my son drives a stick shift.
-
No it is easy =]
-
No, in fact I REALLY wanna learn!
-
I wouldnt say I am scared to drive a stick shift. I think the vehicle is more afraid of having me as a driver. :-) First gear and I dont get along well...haha
-
Nope, I want to do it again!
-
WTH! yes!!! How can you get both feet, your hands your eyes and your ipod goin at the same time? that freaks me right out!
-
no, its easy, it took me two days to near perfect
-
I'm very comfortable driving a stick-shift.
-
No. I make my living driving peterbilt with an 18 speed transmission. Automatic transmissions make me uncomfortable. I like to be able to chose the gear I want
-
No, I like stickshifts,especially for 1/4 racing!!
-
No! cause i have never driving stickshift ahahahahahah LOL come on "] (smile)
-
Nope, I can do that. Don't prefer it though. +5
-
It does not scare me, but I don't like it. I have tried it and I had trouble remembering when and how to shift gears (maybe I am dispraxic or something). Also, driving a stickshift is kind of annoying when you are on a hill. My bf is always pressuring me to learn stick and he says people who drive automatics are sissies. But automatics are convenient. Why make yourself do more work than you have to?
-
Personally, now that I lost an arm, I think I'll miss driving stick. Automatic transmissions usually don't shift when you want them to. You can't red-line a 4th before up-shifting for e.g. Smoother more friendly and family oriented driving, sure, but sometimes you just want sportier shifting, and most automatic gearbox cars lack a sports mode (the accessible ones anyway).
-
No. Automatic transmissions bother me more. Less control. +5
-
No, but If anybody else is on the road when I attept to drive it they should be :s.
