  • Tylenol: (acetaminophen) is a chemical compound used to relieve minor aches and pains. Aspirin: (acetylsalicylic acid) is an organic compound (found in birch tree bark) used to relieve minor aches and pains, to reduce fevers and as a blood thinner.
  • Tylenol is a more powerful pain killer but cannot be taken frequently because of its side effects. Aspirin with codeine can be used frequently and is a multipurpose drug (Anti clogging).
  • First major difference. Acetominaphen (tylenol) is not anti inflammatory. It is apain reliever and fever reducer only. Aspirin does those and also reieves inflammation of arthrits , muscle pain, even sunburn(as well as many others) Aspirin may cause stomach distress and/or make one more susceptible to bleeding. To me , the most important fact is that Tylenol is toxic to the liver. They have only just recently begun to acknowledge that fact in consumer adverts. If you drink alcohol in any significant amount you should be aware of that. You should not take higher than recommended doses of it or take it for extended use. I suggest mixing your tylenol with your ty-de-bol and flushing.
  • Tylenol is milder and gentler on the stomach than Aspirin. Also, it can be given to children while Aspirin is very dangerous to a small child
  • The two drugs are differnet chemically and have different effects. Ibuprofen is the strongest and longest lasting. It is processed by the kidneys (if I remember correctly) and shouldn't be taken by people with kidney diseases. My daughter was not allowed to take Ibuprofen during chemo, as her chemo drug was hard on the kidneys. Acetiminophen is processed by the liver, and shouldn't be taken by people with liver disease or who are taking other drugs that are known to cause liver damage. My mother was not allowed to take Tylenol at she had metastatic cancer that had spread to the liver. Aspirin reduces inflammation and reduces the ability of the blood to clot and shouldn't be taken with other drugs that reduce the ability of the blood to clot, like Warfarin. All are affective on pain anywhere in the body, although Ibuprofen is the most effective.
