Every weekend! We have some land we are clearing, no electric, no water, no toilets... We find a nice fallen log, cut with the chainsaw, and split with axe, then cook our food over it.
-
Many times. We have a cooking fire pit right outside the kitchen on our porch and we cook with wood. We've got pot hangers so we can hang big dutch ovens and a swing out grill that we can grill directly on or use a frying pan. And we also cook over a fire when we go camping or backpacking.
-
Yes, very successfully, I might add. Where there is a hungry will, there is a skillfull way.
-
no i think it would be pretty hard
-
Yes. I like the flavor it gives the food.
-
i love me a good weenie roast!
-
Ya when I take my kids camping! : ))
-
No, but I've been accused of setting it on fire! :D
-
Are you including BBQ? I'd say probably 20 times per summer for the past 20 years then.
-
I cooked apples once.
-
When I was a kid and we went camping. Smores and hotdogs.
-
Yeah. Last time we went camping we threw steaks on a grill over the fire, and wrapped corn on the cob in foil and threw that on the fire too. Then I wrapped a whole loaf of garlic bread in foil and set it down in the pit near the fire to heat it up. It all was rather tasty (and easy!)
-
Yes, while camping. It's hard to keep the heat constant and for some reason things taste better. ;-)
-
Nothing tastes better than eggs and bacon cooked in a cast iron skillet the morning when camping. Also not too bad in the smell deptartment either.
-
Lots, I have cooked hotdogs, marshmellows (over an open fire), hamburgers, eggs & bacon, toast, potatoes, fish, steak, pancakes are examples of other food that I have cooked involving an open fire :) Good question!!!
-
yes, lots of times. ive cooked all kinds of tasty foods on plenty of camping trips. ive also had pig roasts. my faves are korean barbecued meats and chestnuts (yes, like the xmas carol!)
-
Quite often. We call it barbecuing. As a child I was active in the Scouts, so was my son. We called that fun.
-
Yes, we have. We used to do that with meat, dried fishes, the seeds from a jack fruit...
-
Sure have and I have taught young Boy Scouts to do that also. I was a Boy Scout Leader when my children were young. Part of their training is learning to "live off the land" and survival training. From hearing about it from adults who have been in the military, the Scouts are provided some very good training. Better than some people in the military services.
-
I spent a lot of time backpacking when I was young!
-
Marshmallows.
-
All the time, I just did Saturday.
-
