  • I Know that's right -- such a shame that racism still heavily exists...
  • Unfortunately, I think he would.
  • Yes, unfortunately, and if he had some ACTUAL experience :P and half a brain!
  • I'd almost go the other way, say if he were white he'd be doing less in the polls. Just an opinion. For the record, his skin color has nothing to do with my choice for voting for my candidate -- it all comes down to policy, just like each and every other election I voted in.
  • Oh my goodness I am soooo sick of this RACE BS!!!! Shut up already!!!!!!! In 2000 a white democrat lost was it because he was white??????
  • No, honestly I think he wouldn't be in the race right now if he was white.
  • Actually, no. He's pretty much got the minority vote in the bag, and now there are more black and Hispanic people registered to vote and fired up about it than ever before. Add that to the number of people terrified of another 4-8 years of Republican presidency, and you've got a popular vote.
  • Some interesting early numbers to think about for this questions. http://campaignspot.nationalreview.com/post/?q=MGM0ZWIwNTk5MWVmZWMyNDg3NzhhNzUxMjJjY2JlMDk=
  • Absolutely! People who are blinded by his name/skin color dont take his extraordinary oratory skills very seriously. Let alone his core values, or the plans he's put forth. Instead, staunch republicans are saying "Keep drinking the kool-aid"... yeah whatever...You think if he was a white guy people would be saying "he pals around with terrorist" and "He has anti-american beliefs"? no way! The choice has never been clearer, the only reason this race is as close as it is: Obama is half black. Nobody is voting for him JUST because he is black. If Flava Flav was running he'd be up 10 points? Obama is a great candidate, plain and simple. He's studied the mistakes of previous democrats and has contended very well.
  • Actually, in polling data where there was one black guy and one white guy, polling data tends to err the other way. The black guy doesn't get as high a percentage as he was polled to be getting. And I suspect Obama has more people voting FOR him on the basis of his skin color than against him for it.
  • On the contrary, I think he would be doing worse. Unfortunately, a lot of people are just voting for him because he IS black and they just want a black president (which is still racism, mind you). I mean, I love Obama, but I think it's really lame how polls are always like "Obama's counting on the black vote" or polls that show like 98% of black people voting for him[not a real statistic]. It was the same way with Hillary, for the women who just really, really, really wanted a female president, and all of the same things happened with the polls. Whatever happened to good ol' qualifications?
  • I think the polling data will be the same as it would be if he was white, but i think that come to the elecetion there will be a lot of "closet racism". Follow the link for a VERY interesting article on the subject: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/us_elections_2008/7675551.stm
  • Yes, I think so
  • If he were white, he would never have been nominated. He just isn't experienced enough.
  • If he were white, Hillary Clinton would have been the nominee.
  • Nope. The reason he is doing as well as he is is because of "reverse racism". He is getting alot of votes just because he is black. As for my vote, he is going to get it. I am a white moderate republican, but as underqualified as he is, he won't screw up the country nearly as bad as McCain will.
  • i think he's doing gret in the polls--not much better he could do IMO. He's got some republican votes..that is saying a whole lot. I think people are voting for him because they really are ready for a President who can offer us some good things and real economic changes.. they don't want another 4-8 years of Bush policy. and after McCain saying that he wants the war to last another 100 years (a war we never should have been in)..Obama moved up the list.. then Mccain said "our economy is strong".. Honestly, Obama doesn't really have to do a lot to come across as the smart, caring one and I think that's why he is so high in the polls. If he were white, I don't think it would make a lot of difference.
  • Probably, but not as well as he would do if his name were Barry Smith.
  • He might even win if he was white instead of colored
  • Last time I heard he was up 6-10% in the National polls and stealing a lot of key swing states. Im glad the man is up by that much and survived the awful mistake of picking Biden over clinton as his running mate.
