  • From what I have seen on AB, still alive and well.
  • Well a prejudice is anything we pre-judge without all the evidence. It is like a bias, but biases are often positive like my bias for ice cream. I used to have a prejudice against beets, but exposure and courage changed that. Prejudice is a form of ignorance that we choose to nurture. It is a human tendency and crosses all national, racial, ethnic, and social lines. Everyone has some of it toward something or someone. The liberation comes in recognizing it, admitting it, and overriding it with a decision to learn and open ones mind to new possibilities. It is hard because prejudice is a lazy person's resort. It is the path of least resistance and is under girded by clever littles sayings, folk lore, and "the group" to which we belong. "Groups" love to create "us versus them" scenarios and reinforce them with anecdotes and truisms. You can find enough evidence for the validity of just about any prejudice you have if you want to - just enough to keep you stuck in a rut. You might have meant racial prejudice and it is still active along with many other forms - not only in America, but everywhere that human beings live.
  • hell yeah, it's alive & breathing sure i wish you could just close your eyes and wish it away or wish it was "prejudice" in sense of "prejudice against coffee" but get real... come on, how're you gonna define that? it's right in front of you... sure it's not always intentional and sometimes it's a thing of the subconcious but its still persistent, and evident
  • Apparently. I read recently that 1/3 of Americans won't vote for a black person under any circumstances. Draw your own conclusions. :(
  • Why did Obama win against Hilary? Answer: they would rather vote for a black MAN than a WOMAN. Now that you have Obama vs a WHITE man, who do you think will win? Prejudice and stereotypes go beyond race. There is always some group that sees itself as "better".
  • Hell yes.....
  • Damn right! More today than 20 years ago!
  • Absolutely along with every other country in the world.
  • oh yeah 100% here and alive. Sad thought
  • Sadly, yes.
  • Prejudice, will never die it will just be masked.
  • In the 1950's blacks had to use separate public facilities, sit in the back of the bus,and address whites as boss man. Blacks worked as shoe shine boys, garbage men,and laborers. Many dressed in rags and were virtually illiterate. If a black man failed to observe these limitations he was subject to arrest,or worse. In today's world there are black professionals, judges, police, and political leaders. We have not reached the mountaintop yet,but we have come to a better p[lace.
  • Yes it is unfortunately, but look at the bright side, this election has already made history and I think Obama will win. What a great statement for this country to make. What if he was white? Probably a landslide victory. Sometimes I think he gets held to a higher standard. We expect every speech to be astounding. Remember racists, if assholes come in all colors, then good people must also.
  • As long as liberation theologians exist, there will always be prejudice and racism. It must be said that it is so bad now that so many people are over sensitive and assume things are offensive or make things offensive when they are not, such as african americans saying those for McCain are racist, and that anyone who doesn't agree with homosexuality is a flaming homophobe.
  • and what is the kkk about?
