  • Detergent is generally made with petroleum products. Yes, crude oil, all cleaned up into a type of mineral oil. This type of 'soap' lasts a long time and is stronger at cleaning. Soap is made of natural oils, from vegetable to animal fats, doesn't last as long (smells bad), but is gentler. Corporations know this difference and this is why dish 'soap' is usually referred to as 'dishwashing liquid' and bathroom 'soap' bars are usually referred to as 'beauty bars' or 'body bars' or 'complexion bars' because the corporations know that their 'soap' isn't really soap.
