  • I do not know if this is the right answer to your question, but since no one else has answered yet, I'll give it a go. Most t.v's have a very thin metal screen just inside the picture screen in the tube. If any magnetic force is applied to or near the picture screen, such as a kid putting a magnet on the screen, or even some vacume cleaners electo magnets are very strong in their motors, that it can create a rainbow effect on the screen. I beleive that that thin metal screen inside the tube then sticks to the picture tube, thus the rainbow effect. If this is the case not all is rotten. You will have to either get a repair man out or take the t.v to the repair shop to get it, I think the term is called, 'de-grassed' or something similar, where they place a thing next to the picture tube and it will de-magnetic that thin metal screen. Most computer monitors have that built in, if you adjust your monitor settings on screen, you will see a U symbol with a line through it. By pressing that button, it de-magnets that metal screen. Hope this helps, if not ask the question again
