  • I dont know if he was black, but he was certainly dark/tanned growing up in the middle east.
  • He was Hebrew.
  • I am not sure about the darkness of the skin of Jesus, but I think the Ethiopian Eunuch in the chariot with Philip was.
  • black? i don't know. but he was not white.
  • Actualy Jesus was a jew, He spoke Hebrew, and most likely he had dark tanned skin.
  • Jesus was a Jew.
  • Certainly SWARTHY. He was born of middle eastern stock...Mary
  • A lot of people think that He was, but my question is: Who cares? I am a Christian because of who He was, not what color he was. I dont care if He was black, white, red or yellow. I follow Him regardless of His color.
  • there was very little black blood in Israel at the time of Jesus, especially in the part of Israel he grew up in. He would have looked like any other Semetic person- brown, tanned skin, longish dark brown hair, dark eyes. Strong features.
  • Jesus probably looked like your average arabian although he is jewish.
  • Jesus was of Semetic ethnic stock. He would have more closely resembled a modern Arab. Does it really matter though?
  • He was east Asian, he was yellow.
  • He was a Jew,and back then european people didn't really convert to judiasm so he was semitic (middle eastern)so he probably resembled a middle to darker toned semitic person.
  • No, although he was tanned.
  • What do you define black as? Simply a color or are you identifying it with African descent? He is of Jewish descent, so whatever skin tone was prevelant would be it, although skin tones always vary based on genetics. His descendents don't seem to have come from African descent.
  • This is no evidence that Jesus was born in Africa or had relatives that were born there... According to the Holy Bible Jesus was a born to Jewish parents, learned to speak hebrew & possible Arabic & lived within 100 miles of Jerusalem...
  • Who said God was white? Are you talking about Jesus being black or white? And do people really care what colour either of them are? I know I don't.
  • God is a spirit creature, not a human. He isn't black or white or short or tall. Edit....okay you changed the question on me so now my answer doesn't make sense. I will answer this one too and say that Jesus was a Middle Eastern man so he was rather dark skinned but not black or white.
  • I think he was an arab, just because the area that the bible says he was from.
  • I'm guessing he was brown skinned, being from an Arabic part of the world. In any event, he was more African than he was European.
  • Who ever said he was white - I always picture him as being black
  • we don't
  • First, prove he wad real to all the women in prison.
  • Jesus wasn't white, he was Arabic. The Church makes him out to be white.
  • Most likely not, chances are he was "dark white" meaning he was very clearly white but naturally tanned, or, he was quite possibly golden brown, not dark enough to be on the scale of an asian but could not be described as white. He was a Jew and raised in what we now call Palestine. Many Palestinian people are simply just tanned version of white. Many of the darker Arabs really descend, if you go back far enough, to the more eastern region past the River Jordan. The emigration started from around post 1850. I found it very doubtful that he was black, but equally, the picture that is so often shown of him would also be incorrect as that is very European.
  • Ummm... he was a Jew, so if by "black" you mean "African", than no. If you mean "black" as in "relatively darker skin" than yes, most likely.
  • Why does it matter? Would his message be any different?
  • No, he was a Jew. At that time, Caucasians hadn't intermarried so much yet with the Jews, so Jesus was very likely olive to dark olive skinned. Neither black nor white, just somewhere in the middle.
  • I dont know about you hemiman, but I dont even give answers or comments a second thought if they are anonymous. They are ususally the ones that are too much of a wussy to ID themselves.
  • Yes he was. He had a big afro and used to date white chicks.
  • HE was HEBREW,a JEW and most likely dark skinned..not that the color of ones skin should have anything to do with anything!
  • Jesus wasn't, but since the human race originated from Africa, it's a safe bet that Adam was.
  • this is a very good question!
  • Considering where he was born, when he was born, he could not have been white. "Jesus was white" is just another lie concocted by white egoists.
  • He was Jewish.
  • we don't know anything for sure...
  • Jesus was Arabic.
  • Because he couldn't jump... (think about it... the temptation in the desert...)
  • He was not white, for white and black, though stereotypical, are the racial extremities, for my Lord was a Jew, and He had brown skin, much like modern middle eastern Jews, arabs, and even hispanics.
  • considering he even existed at all he was not white or black or arabic or chinese he was a Galilean Jew which meant he was basically Isreali. He probably had light to medium brown skin with medium to dark brown hair and brown eyes. People think of him as white because we tend to group everyone into black, white or asian groups and when the most famous/well known pictures of jesus were painted during the renaissance and later they were painted by white anglo saxon european males who were paid by white christian churches who of course made christ in their image.
  • From what i have read from the Bible, Jesus was not"White" he was dark skinned, but not black, like the Jewish Race, from Jerusalem.
  • We dont. Safe bet is Middle Eastern. The bible does describe him though. I tihnk it says he has hair like a lamb...and thats why many people think he's black (black hair is almost always curly or wavy, it varies now because of mixing...but thats a different story). We're also, accoridng to the bible, made in his image...so he looks like you (as far as the nose, eye, ear, and regular body parts are concerned).
  • Jesus of Nazareth was a Galilean Jew born in Bethlehem of Judea, in a carpenter's family. Thus he must have Semitic physical characteristics which is neither black nor Caucasian white. He must have been healthy brown with black hair. But does that matter for a great prophet who appeared to guide the mankind?
  • oh my goodness...he was a JEW. of judea what do people of that area look like?? it ain't white i can tell ya

  • I think in todays terms he would be considered Middle Eastern
  • Jesus was and is God, does it really matter what color his skin was, I do know that what ever color his skin was, is not the color it is now, the color of Gods glorious skin is pure light and light is all colors of the rainbow... check out www.onlyjesusrules.com come catch the fire can you feel it...
  • Being a Jew is being part of a religious sect not a race. Thats like asking "Was Jesus black" answer Actually he was an american.
  • Are some Jews black? ;-)
  • No. The Catholic Church affirms the Jewish heritage of both Jesus and Christianity, "To the Jews belong the sonship, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises; to them belong the patriarchs, and of their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ.' For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 839 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt3art9p3.shtml#839 With love in Christ.
  • Jesus was the color of brass burned in a furnace, and his hair was as wool. If you disagree you are ignorant and you will be dealt with according to god. Look it up in revalations.
  • Not the one that mowed my lawn
  • No, but he was a dark skinned Jew. Remember, back then Jews were a defined race, as well as a religion. I would imagine that his skin resembles a dark person from the middle east, or a very light skinned African.
  • Very Likely, if he existed.
  • He's middle eastern just like Osama
  • um, no. He was kahki.
  • Yes he is and he's in the White House now.
  • haha no he aint black! but good try! and he does exist! well its what i believe because of my parents
  • Let's just say he wasn't white. He was born in the Middle East, not too great of a chance that he looked like Michael Jackson's kids.
  • no he is a Jew, making him tan.
  • who cares....i don't care if HE was an albino...if it was relevant we would have known.....for positive...but as now as it was then ..GOD DON"T SEE COLOR...
  • Jesus could have been an Ethiopian Jew and moved across the red sea as a baby.
  • well, start with Seth, Noah, Shem, down to Abraham, Isaac,Jacob/Israel, to Judah(son of Leah and Jacob), David, Solomon, then finally Mary....the seed of woman....not that the color matters, just the Messianic Lineage....the tribe of Judah.....these are the actually TRUE JEWS....of the Judah Tribe...the last surviving and strongest...till after the ASCENSION.....Jesus was not of Cain, Ham or Japeth.....
  • No. He looked like Obama, with long hair.
  • may be.
  • No he was miraculously the only caucasian in the middle east at the time born with blond hair and blue eyes. His mother just so happen to be of color and all the rest of his family. this question is a joke. How could he not be black is the question.
  • the scientists say he possibly had olive colored skin and curly black hair - does it really matter what 'color' he was?
  • The new testament states his skin was like burnt brass. One would like to think color does not matter, but, this is not true in this society. The current image and name of Jesus is not correct. The image was put forth by the church. The image was changed to make it more European friendly. The Pope and the King were attempting to control the people in Europe when this became an issue. Michaelangelo's cousin sat in as the image he would use to portray Jesus the Christ. The letter J did not exist in his language at that time. The Vatican actually has a black Madonna and Child statue. If you really think color does not matter, see if the church will take out all images of Jesus. This is not even asking them to replace the images w/ darker ones, just remove the current images. See if that happens. Just imagine two beings coming forward to collect their people. Who would the majority of people follow, the one who looks like the picture they have seen since birth in every church, or the one with a darker complexion? Very sad statement of our society, but color does seem to make a difference. Hopefully one day this will not be an issue.
