That is a tough question to answer because we don't know exactly what is being measured. A California Redwood grows to be the largest tree in the world. Its huge size would probably win in sheer tonnage. But it is a soft wood, so . . . It would not win if we're comparing them pound for pound. Then it would probably be one of the ironwood varieties.
