  • Contact the credit card company's Fraud Dept. Explain the situation in clear, concise and chronological terms without the emotion that is often attached to such a situation. Remove the Ex as an authorized user. File a police report. Contact and file a notice with all three credit reporting beureau's.
  • Close the account. If the amount he has charged is significant you will have to file in small claims to get it returned, hopefully plus interest. If it's a couple hundred, as him to pay and just walk away and learn your lesson if he doesn't.
  • The owner of the card is the responsible person for payments. An authorized user can charge, but is not responsible to pay. If the son is not the owner, I do not see where there is a problem. Have him call the credit card company and ask to be removed as an authorized user, and that should solve it. If the son owns the account he can simply close the account.
