Are you more likely to befriend someone who you can relate to/have something in common with or do you become friends with those that you wish to become/to learn from that are very different from you and your experiences?

both, i wouldn't like to be around people the same as me all the time, that would be boring, but i wouldn't like to be around different people either, that would be annoying so both

My best friend lives 2 streets over. We both have 4 children, our husbands are just alike down to the fact that they drive the same truck. We have the same hair color, parenting skills etc. People say we should have been twin sisters cause we are so much alike.

i create a bond faster with those who i have something in common with, but i tend to be friendly and prefer befriending both those that i can relate to and those that i wish to learn things from.

I have to relate on some level with any friend. I don't make friendships just to gain something other than that person's heart.

I like to befriend people who have common likes and dislikes, but whose personality contrasts with mine. I generally find that even if my friends have similar past experiences as mine, I still learn a lot from them since everybody reacts differently in situations. i would befriend someone who i feel is similar to me, i tend to get along best with people who have the same background and interests, values as me.

Someone I can relate to, but is also different enough for me to learn from....We all have something to teach each other, and I seek those people out above the rest.

I help people when I can. Friendship isnt a string that isnt attached. i have few friends. usually there is a common thread like playing chess or writing web pages or taking a class together.
