No no no no no! They respond to voice commands well enough. I DO need to push them off the couch every once in a while though... but that's just their big old butts being stubborn.

none of those. I use a firm tone of voice with my dog and she knows to stop what she is doing or that she has done something wrong.

Absolutely not. I use sounds and touch to discipline my dogs or cats. It should never be done with anger or frustration and should never injure, confuse or instill fear in the animal. Respect is the key (knowing that the humans in the house are the pack leaders). I do my best to live by Cesar Milan's rules: Excersize, Discipline, and Affection in that order. It's all about rules, boundaries, and limitations in my house!

I do lightly smack my cat on the head if she ever bites, which is extremely rare. I tend to use my voice or loudly clap my hands as my primary forms of discipline.
