  • I don't know if this is the case with jeeps, but with some GM vehicles, they have what is called piston slap. The pistons are not completely secured in the cylinder wall when cold but fit perfectly when warm and this causes a knock sound. On the other hand, if your vehicle has hydraulic lifters for the valves, they chatter until oil is worked up into the lifters.
  • I had a similar problem to that sound and it was a lifter problem with the pistons. I just always made sure there was oil in it and it helped the longevity...
