I can't understand why, but WHY two first names? Couldn't he decide to be George or Michael, so chose to be both? Or maybe it's because Boy George had already been taken.... :P

For the same reason that Faroukh Bulsara changed his name to Freddie Mercury. It made it easier to get famous and recognizable.

It was just a stage name. Lots of singers have stage names that are different from their real names.
