I guess you mean the official post boxes for the general public on the street corners. Here (USA) they are blue, with white and red stripes. On each house, however, they vary greatly. The majority are probably black, when they are hanging on the house, but when they are on a pole out at the street, they are white. The post boxes at most apartment houses are in a central location, and they are the color of metal (aluminum).

Well actually Australia Post has RED post boxes for both domestic and international mail, whilst there are also YELLOW post boxes for Express (Priority) mail both domestic and overseas. I love using postal mail so much, i think im obsessed :). But I think its a bit confusing have two different coloured post boxes though, especially for the tourists lol.
