  • The sun.
  • Alpha Centauri, but I don't know the distance.
  • The sun. And right now I hate it. It's too hot here in CAl.
  • The Sun at about 93 million miles. The closest star to our solar system is Proxima Centauri, about 4.3 light years distant. Hope this helps. :)
  • Our sun is a star called SOL. Technically, it is "the closest star to Earth". But I'm thinking you want to know where the nearest other star is..and that would be Proxima Centauri, which is 4.25 light years away. And there is also Alpha Centauri (4.35 light years away), made famous by the Lost In Space television series of the 1960's.
  • I can't prove it but I think it may be the one I packed up with the Christmas decorations.
  • 5-14-2017 Proxima Centauri is actually two stars, and the one nearest us can't be seen. It's hard to imagine the immensity of space. Here is an example to give you an idea just how far apart things are. The distance from earth to sun is called an astronomical unit, AU. It happens that the number of AU in a light year is nearly equal to the number of inches in a mile. Imagine the earth to be one inch away from the sun. At this scale the sun is less than one hundredth inch wide, just a speck of dust. The entire solar system would fit within a man's outstretched arms. The nearest star is another speck of dust FOUR MILES away.
