Both..I always have some that I've shredded in the fridge just for that reason. Sometimes we'll put the shredded Parmesan on a slice of sourdough bread, put it under the broiler and let it get nice and melty and kinda brown and crispy..delicious! :)

Parmesan cheese is EXCELLENT in just about any kind of salad: Every-day, garden-variety salad with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Caesar salad - A MUST! As a little extra ZIP with Roquefort cheese dressing! Tomato soup! Croutons AND a something extra with French onion soup! If you like broiled tomatoes, it's delicious! On pasta! AND yes (I LOVE Parmesan cheese) on pasta with seafood! I KNOW folks say, "Your not supposed to do that!" BUT I'm not telling you to put it on yours! BUT I LOVE IT on MINE! Thanks for asking your Q!
