Knowing that time changes everything and moves everything along in the cycle of life.

Rationality. If you look at things rationally and not emotionally, then you can figure out the best way to deal with problems. A lot of times sleeping on a problem will allow you time to think logically.

Against physical abuse? To run. Failing that, I will resort to using my Orange belt karate skills, which I really don't want to do, seeings as some of it can be really nasty (think sidekick to the knee *winces*)

Depending on what you mean by defence. Physically, I can and will and have unleashed fury that is not a good thing. Mentally, I have the ability to go into a (what I call) "lock down mode" where I block out all emotion and pain. I don't like either of them.
