  • I don't know where you live, but I have to pay for water. I guess you'll find out when you call the FD and ask them to come fill your pool for free!
  • I don't think whether they can charge you or not is the question...it's whether they have the time and resources to do it, or if they want to bother with it at all! I know there are companies in my area that come out with a small tanker truck full of water to fill your pool, but I imagine it's expensive!
  • Asking a question on Answerbag of this variety without including your jurisdiction is useless. Of course all fire departments all over the country (and the world, since ABer's answer from around the world) do not have the same rules. Your question sounds bizarre to me. However, I assume something like this is going on around where you live: some seriously generous fire departments with too much water on their hands giving it away for free? All I can say is, if you are kidding us, GOOD ONE. If you aren't and this happens somewhere, it doesn't mean it happens everywhere which makes most of the people on AB useless with helping you on this question. If this is a serious question and you really want an answer, I suggest re-posting your question and including the jurisdiction so that people from your area might have more information for you.
  • I would imagine that this is a sales ploy. Besides, who would be 'entitled' to free water? You can do it yourself and depending on the size of your pool it would take 3 days and cost you an additional $100-$150 on your water bill. I have heard that if you live in a rural area and pay your volunteer fire department a yearly membership fee, that they will come fill your pool for free, but they don't have to. Obviously if we are having a drought, they won't. But I personally would never expect something for nothing.
