  • Not to me. The only person you're ultimately fooling is yourself;)
  • It's more fun not to. I learned that pretty early on.
  • Not sure what you mean by lie. Many answers are given in the first person as an example such as a parable or metaphor based on observation or experience.
  • yes, especially when you ask if those pants make you look fat. j'aime chasser les poulets nus
  • Not for me, no. I see no benefit in lying about anything on AB or anyplace else!
  • lying doesn't make any sense period... in real life in other mediums such as the Internet but there are plenty of people willing to do it to portray themselves in a different light....
  • Nope. I do enjoy those that do. It's like TV.
  • who told you?
  • No. None at all. Why would I?
  • Is it a lie when no one can verify it? Don't lie. We don't know you. Just tell the truth. It can be cathartic.
  • no sense what so ever. the way I see it love me hate me is your choice. but I sleep well at night knowing I am me through and through.
  • Not at all.
  • No. Nor in real life.
  • No. Why bother?
  • I think AB is the perfect place to tell the truth. You can be yourself and not care much, if at all, who is judging you.
  • It doesn't make sense to lie here or any where else
  • Nope. It's weird, I've noticed people who do. And I'm just not sure I get it.
  • To lie would be silly. No one knows you here, it would make no sense.
  • Lies never make sense. Do it in real life, get nailed and you're toast. Some people pretend to be someone else..you know, "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas"! To the degree that you don't like who you really are, and want to inflate your abilities and accomplishments, it is to that degree you would be tempted to make stuff up..no one would know the difference..you could be Dr. Jones, recently divorced, writing a novel....if that is what you want, then AB and other internet sites are your cup of tea. If you want to meet people and expect them to be honest with you, then you have an obligation to be honest with them. Your choice.
  • It makes sense to the ones who lie; because a lie may make them feel more important, and if that helps them be better humas, then so be it. Little white AB lies most likely wont hurt anyone anyway.
  • Nope, it really doesnt.
  • Lying is the sign of weakness or other struggles.
  • I'd rather use the energy needed to create an elaborate lie for something good, thank you! :)
  • I often use the Internet to get things off my chest and thoughts out of my head that I can't seem to be able to in real life. So it's like lying on both places, but still makes no sense, ha ha. I'm just weak, and too sensitive, even though I don't want to admit it. Otherwise though, Answerbag doesn't help me pay the rent or the bills, so I don't need to. XD
  • It depends. I don't lie on AB (anymore than I do in real life, lol...). I think of AB as a community/ dysfunctional-ish family. Under this philosophy, most of our community, is mostly trying to help people (or just have harmless fun) most of the time. However, the dysfunctional family part causes us to sometimes get our panties in a bunch, like when Crazy Aunt Josie slaps one of the cousins in front of everybody at Christmas dinner. Soooooooo, every now and then an alzheimer-y crone pimp slaps a skater boy and the community can suffer for weeks afterwards from the waves from that experience. But for the most part, most of us get along most of the time. On the other hand, it is not too difficult to perceive of AB as an on-line virtual reality game, and this is your chance to be the last one standing on this site's version of SURVIVOR, SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AND VIRTUALLY EVERYPLACE. Under that philosophy, the plan is to get the most points possible out of the system and in any way you can. I have seen these lies outted. I think they are generally funny and harmless. I think that the game-playing liars and the genuine questioner/ answerers can all get along: the goals are compatible. Afterall, if a question turns out to be an absurd lie but a lot of people are drawn to it, perhaps it has entertained us or caused us to have lively or intelligent conversations ANYway. (By the way, I've recently realized that a questioner was outted by another member as a liar--showing that in a current question he speaks about his WIFE, but in a former question, he speaks about his homosexual partner. Lol. However, instead of removing the QUESTION--since it is is "untruthful," the staff has removed the ANSWER which sites the previous inconsistency. It all feels like, not only are there liars here, but perhaps they are staffers, having a whole lot of fun on the rest of us! This is the thread: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/679208/?page=2&
  • they are lying to themselves, so yes i can understand why ppl do it, but its ignorant.
  • Nope. Why would u lie?
  • Only if tryin' to score a 'cyberdate' (huh?)?! ;-)
  • No. Not in real life either. Makes no sense.
  • I don't think it makes sense to lie anywhere. Just be yourself and then you don't get confused or caught in a lie by clever people. And there are lots of clever people out there.
  • Only if you you're saying something you shouldn't and you think someone will recognize you. But you're right. Easier just to keep your pie hole shut.
  • Probably not - but then, who would care?
  • no, no one knows who you are anyway, why lie?
  • What would be the point?
  • No it doesn't.
  • Why lie just tell it like it is, the truth.
  • No. Seems kind of pointless but I did do it once in a long comment thread that lasted months. Pretended to be someone I wasn't. Lots of fun. The guy was being really nasty so I thought I would play with his head. Told him the truth in the end though.
  • Yes. Absolutely. I lie all the time. Why? Because it's fun. I amuse myself when I make up something ridiculous. I'm also able to make myself out to be whatever kind of person I want.
  • Does make no sense. When it is all about a joke, it does not necessary mean it is a lie.
  • It does not make sense for me to lie anywhere. Life is weird and hard enough without lies.
  • I don't lie on AB. I'm very happy with that. If others do, that's their problem. It just doesn't work for me. I've heard enough lies to last a lifetime. Lies suck. I want a real life, not a substitute.
  • No. For one thing there you can hide behind fake names and avatars if you want, and if you are uncomfortable telling the truth in certain answers then just avoid those questions.
  • If is I said yes or if I said no would you believe me?
  • NO, ITS STUPID TO LIE TO ANYONE, UNLESS YOUR TRYING TO GET AWAY WITH SOMETHING. HAVE A NICE DAY. MIKE
  • I think people might consider it if they admit to doing drugs or if they know that someone will see what they wrote. (I.E. asking a question about a specific person who might see what you wrote on them). I don't, but there are cases where I could see people lying or at least...not telling the whole truth.
  • No.. it makes no sense at all - by the way, you are really intelligent! and handsome!
  • FOR THE 2ND. TIME TODAY, IT DOES'NT MAKE ANY SENSE I LIE TO ANYONE.
  • It makes no sense to me to lie on AB.
  • What would be the purpose? There is nothing to be gained by deception on this site. +5
  • Nope, but I've seen a few people do it anyway. Whatever floats their boat.
