  • Your question contains a fundamental flaw. Heat doesn't rise; it moves in all directions. Hot air rises, which is too bad because if it flowed downwards, the air coming off Capitol Hill and Parliament Hill could keep us all warm.

  • If hell is in the middle of the earth might be. I don't know much about the earth's core, but I do know that beneath our earth's crust sits liquid hot magma. So I am only guessing that maybe all that liquid hot magma might make the middle of the earth hotter than hell?

  • Various versions of this one have been around for the past few years, but it's worth repeating here. Maybe this will answer your question: "Dr. Schambaugh, of the University of Oklahoma School of Chemical Engineering is known for asking questions such as, "why do airplanes fly?" on his final exams. His one and only final exam question in May, 1997, for his Momentum, Heat and Mass Transfer II class was: "Is hell exothermic or endothermic? Support your answer with proof." Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law or some variant.       I suspect people got the idea of "hell" from witnessing volcanic activity, and (rightly) assuming there was a fiery, molten pit somewhere underground.
  • I don't think science applies to hell. Or even heaven for that matter. Tom Cruise would be very disappointed.
  • Of, of course, hell should be up, not down. Though actually,if you dig a mine, it gets hotter, because of heat from the centre of the earth.
