• Selenium is a microelement, such as zinc or chrome.... it is essential in cell function, immunity and so. Deficiency has been shown in very malnourished people, and in some area in china where the soil (and then vegetable) is very low in Selenium. Deficiency in selenium is associated with some very particular bone disease, thyroid dysfunction and decreased immunity. BUT, and this is the most important, if you eat correctly, in the western world, I would not suspect selenium deficiency. I would not even measure it in your blood. You really have to be malnourished +++ to be selenium deficiency hope this help
