An expressway is usually a divided highway for high-speed traffic with some sort of access control (limited cross streets and driveways and/or onramps, offramps and interchanges). A highway is simply the generic term for a major road. A parkway is a broad, usually landscaped road (often through designated parks, hence its name) banned to heavy trucks.
