If you want to be up-front about it give them a receipt for alfalfa, carrots and the like. : )

Mileage is allowed to compensate for wear and tear and fuel consumption. I would say that a portion of your boarding and feed would count if it is proportionate to the amount of time you use the horse for business travel. I would still track mileage and write it off.
