There are different types of atheist but, in brief, no not if you mean faith as in belief.

Reason alone cannot lead one to deny God's existence, as this is unprovable. So yes, faith is required.

It does depend but for most atheists the answer is a resounding NO. Strong atheists may claim that "god certainly does not exist" - this is a faith based position as you cannot prove God(s) do not exist. I think this is a foolish position as acknowledging you cannot prove a negative in no way undermines the atheist position. Weak Atheists (which I believe are the majority and I include myself in this category) merely state they do not believe god exists which is a long way from the strong position. You could argue this is agnosticism and it is, there is no reason you can't be agnostic and atheist at the same time. Even Dawkins and so forth acknowledge you can't prove a negative but this doesn't make god(s) exist. So I don't have faith God(s) do not exist but I am completely unconvinced by the arguments for god(s) just as I am with the arguments for Santa Claus, The Flying Spaghetti Monster or Thor. I strongly suspect there is no god(s) but I can't prove a negative just as no-one can prove the flying spaghetti monster does not exist but this does not make either of them real. The burden of proof lies with the theist to state then prove god(s) exist(s) and not for the theist to state god(s) exist(s) and then the agnostic/atheist to prove them wrong.

Come to think of it, one needs to first accept something before he can deny it even exists, right? One cannot say he doesn't believe in, say, a giant snake, without him at least knowing what a gaint snake is. A toddler who's never known of a giant snake is a true example of someone who can truly claim he doesn't believe in such. I doubt if an atheist has NEVER, ever known of, or about, God. An atheist is one who chooses to DENY there is God. Having that said, that doesn't make God non-existent just because atheists deny His existence. If that's the case, Anacondas may very well be non-existent just because a bunch of toddlers don't believe they exist.

Faith means the believing in something without any sound reason. An athirst does not believe in God. The word NOT means it is not faith.

No. Quite simply faith is active not passive. People with faith actively believe. I don't sit around thinking to myself "God doesn't exist." I don't even think about the possibility. Therefore the answer is no.

See, the thing is, it is pointless to try and argue over the existence of God to anyone really. Instead you should focus on the belief in the "concept" of a higher power and how believing in something greater than yourself can benefit you. Lets simply take the concept of Good and Evil into account. Is there anyone who could honestly say that at least having the perception that some things are inherently good or evil is a beneficial idea. Without the belief in the existence of these two polar opposite abstract concepts there would be chaos. So I guess the question I would like to ask the atheist/agnostics is "What do get out of it?" I mean "What does 'not-believing' in God (a belief that has proven to be beneficial for many people) do for you?" Because the truth is that those who believe in God have everything to gain and nothing to lose. There's no downside. If I believe in God and live according to Bible principles and Christian values then I live and lead a good life. If I find out later that there is no God, ok.....well so what....I still benefited from believing.

No. I don't believe that God exists. Neither do I believe that the Nurgleflurp exists. Would you say that my disbelief in the Nurgleflurp is 'faith'? I certainly wouldn't.

atheists do want proof. God believers have faith and do not need proof. How can we prove God exists? We cant.

I think the word "faith" is an odd choice, faith in something ok, faith not in something is alot like "no faith". So, I believe they have no faith in God however, they may have a diety of another sort, even if it is the color purple...doesn't matter, they have faith in something but not faith by omission. That's my thought anyway.

If you mean I have confidence that there is no such thing as God, then yes. This is, however a different connotation of the word "faith" than god believers have. I'm saying I have faith that there is no such thing as Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, the Easter Bunny, or god.

Atheists can have "faith" in whatever they want. It's not a word that is specifically related to God or religion.

As you most likely already know, "faith" has nothing to do with it. Atheists seek empirical proof. That, of course, would make our purpose and existence here on the physical plane dramatically different.

In my opinion, everything we think we know, is merely faith in what we believe. All of us have very limited intellectual capacity (just because we're smarter than a duck, doesn't mean we're smart) and sensory input. Therefore, the cosmos is probably not at all, what we perceive it to be; so faith and belief, are the tentative foundations, of all we think we know.

Faith is the belief in something that cannot be proven. To say one does not have faith all you are admitting or claiming is a lack of faith because of no reason {evidance} to support otherwise. I don't beieve there is a word unfaith.

i hear this argument from Christians a lot and it is one of the worst ones because it is an attempt to fundamentally change the meaning of the word "faith". Atheism is the lack of faith that God exists and not faith in anything in particular.

I can't speak for all atheists, but I don't. I see the evidence that suggests there is a 99.9999...% chance of god not existing, so I am not going to waste my life believing.

No. They have no faith, they believe in nothing.

I think they simply don't believe God does exist. Even when there are things that can't be explained, they are convinced that there MUST be some other explanation, one that we just haven't yet discovered. That's perhaps where an element of faith comes in.

Most atheists are agnostic atheists. They reject God on lack of evidence. Ask them, and they will not tell you that they know God does not exist, but they will tell you that they don't believe in God. It does not take faith to reject a belief.

Strong atheists ("There is no God") have faith. Taking a position on the issue requires faith, unless you are honest and admit you don't know. Weak atheists ("There's probably not a god") don't have faith, they've got an opinion. Faith is simply a belief in absence of knowing for sure. It's not something to be ashamed of, unless it's baseless, unshakable faith. That's called delusion.
