  • Not in three or so years at least.
  • Haven't even had one for 5+ years.
  • not since my messed up and wouldn't give me my 5 page report for class one time and i had to do it all over. Now i will never use them again i got a flash drive
  • Sure, I do from time to time.
  • yes just for documents. its more cost-effective for me and i end up scratching and losing cd
  • Less and less because almost all of my floppies have gone bad and I'm not going to spend any money on such flaky media.
  • I don't.
  • I did for a long, long time, but I just got a new laptop and it doesn't have a floppy drive. I actually really liked using them, though. I might get an external drive that plugs into the USB port. I have a really hard time keeping track of my CDs because I have music CDs, video game CDs, PC CDs, DVDS, etc. I miss floppy drives.
  • no, floppy discs are unreliable and have waaay to little capacity compared with the size. I usually just use my hotmail if I need to transfer files from one place to the other. I think it's been more than five years since last time I used a floppy disc
  • My current computer doesn't even have one. I pretty much have no use for one anymore. I would have had to pay extra to add it on.
  • No my dad does though. His computer doesn't have one though so he uses mine.
  • I still use a floppy, zip and a 60 gb mammoth tapedrive LOL
  • I don't have any.
  • My laptop has no floppy drive. None of the new desktops I looked at had one, either. They can still be bought as an external drive if a person really needs one.
  • aw i miss the floppy drive :( .. sadly my laptop doesn't have one
  • I use mine about once a year or so when I am installing Windows XP and need to install a driver or transfer old data to a CD. I also have a lot of Retro-Games from the 80-90's and I am in the process of backing those up to CD as well. EDIT: I had to use one just the other day when trying to restore someones vintage Windows Millennium computer.
  • yes I do, added one when I buiit mine, and probably use it at least every week, still good for saveing documents as long as they aren't for long term use. and you keep them and cool and dark area, they still last for a long time. I do use jump drives more and more, as they are more portable and less likely to damage as easily.
  • Nope, never. I only still have one just in case I need a REEEEEALLY old file for something.
  • I still use it. I have a few dozens of boxes of floppies that were used a decade ago containing some important files.
  • Not in years! I forgot it even existed.
  • I bought an external one a few months back as I had all my Grandsons first baby pictures saved on floppies. In the last couple of weeks it has been used tons. When my DVD/CD drive broke I used it to reboot the PC etc. Still hady to hang on to and very inexpensive. I agree about using memory sticks they are much more portable and store so much more. Brilliant invention.
  • My computer doesn't have a floppy drive. I don't miss it either.
  • No. I am using flash memory. I think is better. What are you using Zack?
  • i think it's good to have available (for flashing the bios and working with older computers) but my computer doesn't like any of the 4 i have lying around. so no.
  • My girlfriend likes hard drives more. *shrug*
  • Yes. I actually had to pull one out of a system in my boneyard (I have a stack of old systems in the basement) so my wife could install some custom RAID array drivers on a system she was building. I also keep a USB floppy drive around because of certain server drivers that still require access to the A: drive and expect a 1.44Mb drive.
  • I have one 3.5" floppy drive that I can plug in to any of my PC's. I use it to update the BIOS.
  • I had not thought about a floppy drive until I read this question. I have had the new computer for a few months now and just relizied that it does not even have one.
  • My computers don't even have a floppy drive. They don't even have a place for a diskette
  • yes i do, alot of times, actually quite frequently
  • Well, I use it all the time on my piano, but on my computer, no. I just stick it on my thumb-drive. :)
  • i did back when, now im using higher capacity devices such as a flash drive or an external hard drive
  • rarely, in my IT class
  • Yes , my wife.
  • No use for it to be honest. I have a 4 port USB hub installed in its slot no and use 4 16gig USB Pen drives from them. So no actual need for a floppy. They where good during their time and they served well, however, technology moves on and let's face it, USB Pen Drives are 100x better!
  • when i was using DOS
  • I still use mine to transport small files from computer to computer. No use wasting those expensive CD's on small stuff.
  • occasionally forced to to install sata drivers, update bioses and similar
  • i don't even have one !
  • I haven't used one in years. At least in my own. My computers that I build and sell doesn't even come with one. I remember selling a box of 10 for $10 back in the day. Thanks to flash drives and optical drives those slow things are collecting museum dust. 1.44 mb floppy drive = $50 (install included) 8 gig flash with security = $50 no install needed and portable I think that pretty much sums it up. :o) http://www.bytemecomputers.net <---- cool and cheap flash drives
  • When I use the old computer, like to play some game or use programs that are happily on it, then I use it. It's been about a year since I've had it set up as we've been moving and things are in storage. But I do plan on using it again later.
  • I still use floppy drive. Because i use an old model camera using floppy disk were i store the images.
  • I couldn't stand not using a floppy, so I bought an external USB floppy. However, once I started using the flash drives, I realized they were the new floppy drive. As long a the computer has a USB port, you can put what you need on a flash drive and be mobile.
  • Yes there are many pepole r using Floppy drive coz they have litte work to do that's y they r using
  • although my computer still has one, i haven't used it in about 6 months. It has become obsolete, and has been phased out by the flash drive, CD-RW, DVD-RW. Besides, for today's storage requirements, 1.4MB is hardly enough even for a high quality picture, while a Thumb drive can hold thousands.
  • nah i do once in while but i use a usb external floppy so i just pull it out when its needed
  • I COULDN'T LIVE WITHOUT ONE! ALWAYS GOOD TO HAVE, BUT I THINK I WILL START USING A FLASH CARD FOR BACKUP!
  • Yes. For me it's a must as I have a Yamaha PSS-740 with a 3.5" floppy and it's the easiest way to transfer midi files between it and my PC.
  • no..used to, but not anymore.
  • As a certified technician I use an external USB floppy drive for those PC's that no longer have FDD. And all my machines have FDD but I only use them for servicing/maintenance, upgrading BIOS and firmware if and when needed. Never store any valuable data on them.
  • I don't much lately but I used to write some operating systems to floppy. Usually some small Linux distro small enough to fit. For some who only use the computer for typing and printing, they may be enough!
  • Floppy drive is so useless nowdays. It takes a long long time to write information onto it, it's small sized, so you can't put anything onto it, and the floppy disk has shorter lifetime, .. unlike CD or USB Flash Drive. I took out my Floppy drive from my P2, and threw it away.. now the CD drive replaces it. Also my W98 crashed on P2, but the "Start Up" disk has no use at all... so useless.
  • Although I've used floppy drives, my new computer doesn't even have one.
  • Use it all the time at work! :)
  • I haven't used one in years (other than fixing computers for someone else). They are and have been completely obsolete. Flash drives have taken their place and you actually get more space for the $ when compared to floppy or cd-r/dvd-r, faster read and write speed and they are more durable. I have a pair of 5 1/4" floppy disks and am having them matted and framed on my store wall. I like to think how far we have come in such a short time. :o)
  • I do for Maxtor's Powermax software.
  • i am an avid hacker(only for legal purposes like data restoration) and often boot problamatic computers in a number of ways usually through the floppy drive inot 1 of many operating proticals and can use this method to use software to crack passwords. i am actually ranting a lot latly about how computers dont have them in the newest modles anymore.
  • I do occasionally for Maxtor's PowerMax software and Norton Ghost 2003
  • No, the only use I could ever know them by was making a floppy disc bomb and waited for someone to put it into their drive so it fries the computer, but I realized that floppy drives are pretty much dead.
  • as it used well, i use it now. http://www.babatek.com
  • Yes it is more easser to hack from flopy disk like reaseting password
  • My current laptop doesn't have a floppy drive. Personally I think floppies suck since they can only hold 1.44 MB data. A better replacement is the USB thumb drive, which has the convenient portability of floppies, but can hold gigs instead of megs of data.
  • Yes, for installing Intel drivers every time I get a new computer
  • If you are building PCs they come in handy to format and zero out hard drives. They will boot on old computers where NOTHING else will. That said Knoppix on a burned cdrom has reduced even this to a minimum.
  • Long long time ago,I used it. But I think nobody use it now.
  • lost...
  • hi.................... we use floppy drive still even though we have pen drvie or usb floppy is greate it is use and throw one i like it god bless u............... help one person in a month and ask them to help another
  • yes, I repair computers and have to deal with them, but I also install CDRW and teach the old users to transfer data from A:drives to CDRW and from Zip drives to CDRW. If you need one I can ship you one or 20, just pay for shipping. I have tons of them.
  • No. Haven't used one for years. No need!
  • I haven't used one for years but I refuse to throw it out just in case there's some sort of CD meltdown in the future and the only people that survive are those who have their floppies. Therefore its in a box in teh attic somewhere where I can't lay my hands on.
  • Yes, but recently, I found an old big 5.25" diskette with midschool phone numbers. Where can I read it now?
  • Nope - don't even have one!
  • I don't... Still, I think they're yet to come up with something a bit more practical for storage. Sure, CDs and DVDs are cheap, but it's kinda cumbersome to burn them, and they're prone to scratches. Pen-drives are nice, but they're not the kind of thing you put a document and give away to your friend. Maybe there should be a very cheap flash memory device, with about 100MB or something, that you could buy in volumes and give away to people. And don't tell me you could just e-mail them, because mailboxes doesn't support large single files, and hosting sites like Rapidshare are a pain in the ass and unreliable.
  • Yes, I have two floppy drives...in ONE computer. Long Live the Floppy! Though, it is strange that they stopped making video cassettes (which many people prefer over DVDs when it comes to recording) but floppies are still be churned out.
  • No it turns into a hard drive quickly.... floppy is useful for bootups especially older or legacy PCs
