I've not been in a straight jacket, however, I've been placed in 5 point safety leather restraints for the purpose of training staff. Having to place out-of-control psych patients into safety restraints (who become a danger to themselves or others) can be a very challenging. There is a procedure to follow and takes the team work of those involved. The end result being face down on a platform bed with all extremities buckled (one limb per staff) to the bed. The waist is also restrained to prevent "bucking". Its a very scary thing to have happen while training as you lose all control of body movement and are entirely vunerable to those who have restrained you. The only thing I was missing (while acting as an out-of-control 16 y.o.) was the shot in my butt to knock me down a few nothches. I've had to apply these restraints many times in my career as a psych nurse. AND I'm the one having to "ride bronc" trying to give the injection. Its the part of my job I hate the most!

I've been in a padded room, They called it the quiet room.

I was put in a padded cell, but not in a straight jacket.
-
The cell I was in, wasn't padded. Not even close.
-
No, but I know someone who needs that sort of restraint Susan!

Thank goodness, no..I think something like that would put me over the edge if I weren't already there..I hate constraints, confinement of any kind..I can't stand to have the sheet tucked tightly at the bottom of the bed...
