  • Did you speak to your doctor about this? It usually isn't recomended to breast feed while on antidepressants.
  • Yep. It greatly diminished my milk supply. However my cousin had a baby three weeks before me and she started taking Welbutrin immediately after delivery and has never had a problem with it. My baby is 13 months old at this point, so it may have something to do with the rapid weight loss I experienced after starting Welbutrin.
  • Future_health_educator, you have to have a prescription to get antidepressants, so speaking with a doctor is mandatory. They only prescribe them when the benefits outweigh the risks, whether breastfeeding, pregnant, or otherwise. Zoloft and Welbutrin are currently the most commonly recommended brands of antidepressants for breastfeeding mothers because their effects have been shown to be minimal in the infants and toddlers. Better to have a mother on antidepressants than dealing with crippling depression or post partum psychosis, right?
  • My baby girl and I are about ready to give it a whirl. It's a class B med per my doctor and only because it's not known to have any problems... they just haven't done any formal infant studies. I'll let you know how it goes.
